The Tillis Hills Recreation area campground BEATS the Silver Lake Recreation area by far if you're not wanting to be by a lake. It is QUIET. These state forest campsites are in the middle of the Citrus tract, not next to an interstate like Silver Lake. The campsites are all asphalt, with plenty of room. 50/30 hookups. Large pavillion area. Each campsite has fire ring and a table secured to the ground, but far enough away that you shouldn't have to move it. Large grassy sites, no privacy between, but plenty of room. Many people here brought horses, as this facility has horse stalls and lots of trails for riding. The road to the campground curiously is gravel, which is funny considering the campground is all paved. Wonder if they were trying to keep it a secret. Compared to the state parks these bathrooms are in need of updating, but the toilets flushed and the showers were warm. There were no gate codes, but one night when we returned to the campground after 9 pm when it was dark there was a gate secured with a chain but it was not locked. HIghly recommended if you want a quiet place to sleep out in the woods.
