I had the pleasure of staying here in January for 8-9 days. It was a beautiful respite from the humidity of the coast at that time of year. The waterfalls and swimming pools are stunning and much closer to here than in town. The bungalows are very comfortable and very very reasonably priced. Food is great and very reasonable too..I even had a cooking lesson and our hosts took us to market to buy the ingredients and then showed us how to prepare some beautiful meals..Ani's rustic outdoor restaurant is great! .It's very laid back and walking through the town is really a treat. Often we were asked in for coffee at people's homes and we visited the local school. The many calls to prayer echo through the valleys at all hours and become part of the soundtrack. The views are stunning and our hosts could not have been friendlier. and we got to meet some of their friends and family too! Really wonderful. Thank you!

“amazing place with amazing people”
Reviewed 14 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Super nice spot, away from busy village, you can rest here and look at the rice terraces and mt. Rinjani in the background. Very nice and comfortable bungalows, almost new. Just 10 minutes away by walking through the rice fields you can reach an amazing village on the mountain with no road acces, so there are no cars there or no motorbikes. It is great experience, almost like a idyllic dream. The owner is very friendly and will take you for a trips to see different locations in lombok. And food is good.

When we booked the only thing we knew was that it was a bungalow in Tetebatu as described on the website http://tetebatugarden.com.

When we arrived we were surprised that it was located at the very end of Tetebatu. Our driver had to go up a rugged mountain street until we arrived in the northern part of Tetebatu. To our surprise that was already very close to the jungle and waterfalls.

We were welcomed by a whole lot of people: Ipon that drove in front of us to show us the way to Tetebatu Garden, Rusli the owner and his family. After they offered tea and coffee and we could still our hunger and had some nice conversations with those guys (most of them worked in the tourism business before and therefor speak good English and also know some German words) we felt at the right place.

First to the accommodation: They have two bungalows directly in front of a richly vegetated valley (the second bungalow was directly taken by a couple that drove with us to Tetebatu without having anything booked upfront). The bungalows are basic but comfy with a good double mattress on the floor and the possibility to install a mosquito net. Aircon or a fan is not needed at all here as it gets cool in the evenings (think about 18 degrees). The bathroom has a western-style toilet, sink with mirror and a cold-water shower. The terrace in the front of the bungalow is a nice place to hang out and enjoy some drinks and food (coffee and tea you get for free all day long!).

But the best part about the trip was the familiar atmosphere - they really cared about us all the time - and that we were invited to join their local events. After a long guided walk through the local rice and tobacco fields and rich vegetation (with a lot very interesting explanations from our guide Ipon) we went to the jungle to see some apes and on to the waterfalls of Tetebatu where fishes care about your pedicure ;)
After that we were invited to join the local stick fighting event - a very traditional type of Lombok martial art that only takes place in a certain time of the year and we were lucky! To our surprise our hosts organized some traditional clothes that made us look like real Sasak! Very enjoyable for us and the amused locals :D

There's some rain in Tetebatu (guess why that area is called the bread basket of Lombok) so bring your jacket. Still we had the possibility to sit on the fire with our local friends drinking some local rice wine and listening to the guitar.

We strongly recommend to go here! Don't choose a resort downtown - go here to enjoy a real local experience! We would always do it again.
