We were staying at a nearby chain hotel for two nights in August. We're not crazy about chain restaurants and on our night of arrival were too tired to venture far. We asked at the front desk what they'd recommend given our no chains rule. Athena II did not disappoint. The service was fantastic, really friendly and patient given our questions about unfamiliar menu items. It was good to see many locals eating here and although this place has a no frills kind of decor it was under refurbishment on our visit so may look a whole lot different now. However the surroundings didn't negatively impact on the experience and we were treated to good quality home style cooking that was plentiful in portion size. We can heartily recommend the meatloaf and the chocolate cream pie was to die for. We enjoyed it so much we returned for breakfast the next morning and it was awesome. Really good value for money and lovely servers. Highly recommend.
