Description: Barcelona New Haven opened in 2006 and is our largest restaurant in CT. Winner of the New Haven Advocate's "Best New Restaurant" and "Best Wine List," Barcelona is located next to the Omni Hotel in downtown New Haven just steps from Yale University. Here we have combined some of our favorite elements in a single location. A street level lounge overlooks a dining bar area with a stone fireplace. The sophisticated glass-and-steel dining room is framed by a 2000-bottle refrigerated wine cellar. The dramatic 80-seat private room is dominated by a larger than life, wall to wall, 30-foot mural of a Spanish bullfighter, and a 20-person chef's table, fashioned from a single walnut tree, borders the busy open kitchen.

We stayed at the Omni and this restuarant was right next door. It is tricky to find becase there is no sign so we had to call and ask for their location. Very cool front door made of horizontal wood slats that blend into the surrounding wood.
When you enter it is loud and crowded but in an inviting way. We were seated immediately and our waiter, Joe, was at our table within minutes despite how busy it was. He was friendly and checked on us frequently. The wine he recommended was wonderful too, just like him!
We were seated right next to the bar so quite loud but ok and we could view the open kitchen and all the activity inside.
The food was fresh and devine. As it is a tapas bar Joe told us to get 2-3 items per person to share. We ordered 5 for the 2 of us and it was perfect.
We will come back if we ever visit the area again!

Having traveled to Spain several times recently, we are quite familiar with Spanish food, particularly tapas. First of all, service is warm and gracious. The restaurant is large with a sense of warmth and the decor is understated. Good selection of both wines by the glass and bottles. We shared jamon, cheese, croquettes, hamachi, potatas bravas and a few other items including delicious seared scallops. All were very good. The newest dessert is the cheesecake which I would recommend as well. Prices are fair and I would definitely return.

Each tapa is creatively more delicious than the last (or the next one!) The location is excellent, and the ambiance is superb. You can feel the exuberance in the atmosphere as soon as you enter Barcelona. The country bread made and baked on premises, and is served with the best-tasting olive oil ever! Our teenage guests were absolutely delighted to be there!

Great restaurant with great food. Great atmosphere. Parking is difficult but in warmer months you can walk around downtown New Haven. Enjoy dinner or late night gathering.
