“New England as it truly is...”
Reviewed 14 December 2011

Charming old building houses this quaint, colonial inn. If you want glass elevators, stay in Boston. If you prefer the flavor of a New England seaport, stay at the Whaler's Inn. Rooms are charming and the cleanest you'll find anywhere. The proprietor, Mr. Prisby, has created a warm and welcoming environment. Service is excellent. Our four poster bed was exceptionally comfortable and the room was quiet. Conveniently located..walking distance to all things Mystic. Two thumbs up for this New England gem!

As others have noted, this is a great location for walking around Mystic. The hotel is actually a collection of various buildings of different styles and vintages. We stayed in the Main Building on the third floor. This is a walk-up with no elevator. We took the advice of others and requested a corner room, which was quite spacious. The building is an old, wooden structure with lots of character (did not see any fire sprinklers.) Although it was clean and fairly comfortable, the furnishings and fixtures (TV, etc.) are well past their prime. There were not many guests when we were there, but I could still hear sounds from other rooms so I suspect it could be somewhat noisy during the peak season. The included continental breakfast was convenient, although mostly prepackaged foods. The staff was very friendly and responsive. Parking is very convenient in the courtyard. All in all an OK place, as long as you are not looking for high-end modern luxury.

Room Tip: Request a corner room on the upper floors for more space and daylight.

Whaler's Inn is one of the MOST convenient places to stay if you want to explore the Mystic Village area on foot. Lots of great shopping and fabulous restaurants all around you - you won't need your car if you stay here. You'll even have a view of the famous drawbridge from just about every room on the property. Mystic Aquarium, Old Mystic Village and Mystic Seaport are a very short drive away. The Inn has it's own parking lot which is VERY convenient - parking in Mystic, especially in the summer time can be hard to find.

Rooms are nice, but more like a good standard hotel than an Inn. Our room lacked the local personality I have expereinced in other "Inns", but is was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Bathroom shower and toilet were seperate from sink area which was nice, but sink is VERY small and not well lit. Open hanging closet next to bath area, a writing desk, and a small table and comfy sitting chair to round out our rooms decor. TV is in a closed armour, but TV and remote are OLD, and the satellite was not very reliable while we were there. NOT that you will want to spend time watching TV with beautiful Mystic to explore!

Breakfast is standard but good continental: hard bolied eggs, premade pancakes, breads and rolls in addition to sweets. Fresh coffee and tea all day long, and fresh cookies in the lobby too -that is ALWAYS nice.

All in all a very pleasant stay. Location is the key here!

Room Tip: The stairs to upper floors are pretty steep, and some buildings lack hand rails at the top of the st...

We went for one weekend in mid-November. It's an easy and convenient drive from Boston. The service at check-in was fantastic, warm and friendly. We had a corner room on the third floor of the main building, very comfortable. The building is older, and the floors are settling, so the room seemed to slant a bit, but that's fine with us. Like others before have written, there are plenty of shops and restaurants in walking distance. The inn is not far to I-95, so the casinos and museums near the Navy Sub Base are easy to get to as well. I would recommend this hotel anyone who wants to stay at a quaint New England inn in the Mystic area.

Mystic provided a fantastic break from hectic Manhattan. The whalers inn is well located, chintzy but very homely. its well located for the town being at the heart of the boutique shops and eateries that cluster either side of the bridge. I had a queen suite which was packed with antiquiy furniture giving it a really quaint feel. a fantastic place for a little R&R.
