Emmaus Village Carlton
Ranked #1 of 3 Restaurants in Carlton
Certificate of Excellence
Price range: US$5 - US$9
Description: At Emmaus Village Carlton we give people a home, meaningful work in one of our social enterprises and an opportunity to get themselves back on their feet. For many people who experience homelessness, one of the biggest obstacles they must overcome is a loss of self-esteem. Emmaus provides an opportunity to regain this, with a chance to make a real contribution to their community. Emmaus communities are not hostels for the homeless; we provide a home for as long as someone needs it. For many, this support and stability is like the family they don’t have, providing a safe environment in which to settle and re-build their lives. We collect and sell donated goods, using the money generated to sustain our community. We refurbish and upcycle items in our workshop and run a delivery, collection and house clearances services. Emmaus Village Carlton is based in the countryside village of Carlton in Bedfordshire. The retail space includes a Home Store, The Chapel and Em's Bistro. The community accommodation is also based on the same site. In Under 1 Roof, which is located near the 24-hour Donation Drop Off, all the donations are sorted before they are moved into the Home Store or Ems Bistro. In Ems Bistro you will also find our book store and bric-a-brac shop.

Stuck in the middle of the Bedforfshire countryside, Emmaus village is a must. Despite being busy, you always get a warm welcome
There are a good selection of bargins to be had but the best bit is Em's bistro. The food is fantastic.
Good selection of meals at whatever time of the day you go. The chicken korma and homemade naan was fantastic and the sandwiches were all freshly made
The cake selection is always tempting, Its very hard to resist
I always spend loads when I visit but you know it always goes to a worthy cause which I dont mind supporting

Visited in hope to find a particular book for my nieces world book day event. Amazingly we found the exact book she wanted '' Disney Tangled'' and it was in excellent condition. It was very reasonable (pence). Very happy 4 year old. Topped off the day with lovely late lunch, gluten free cakes and crisps available for me. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming, great with children too. Thanks Emmaus for a lovely day :)

Found this place about two years ago and have been going every few months since. The food is always appetising and tasty and nicely presented by staff who are very professional in lots of ways.
For donations there is a good drop off point which means they now get all our unwanted items! Much easier than taking them to a town centre charity shop. Huge selection of used and restored furniture for sale which is usually reasonably priced. Worth wandering just to see if there is anything unusual or interesting here. Allow a good couple of hours to wander the shops here!
It’s a very worthy cause.

Such a fabulous place to visit. this place is a hidden gem and I can't believe I had never heard of this place before now. You can sit here for hours reading books and sipping tea or coffee and not forgetting the lovely cakes served. The staff are very welcoming and the service is brilliant. There is of course a reason to visit - all profits help the homeless people and they even help out in the cafe and the shop. Will definitely be telling all my friends and family about the Emma's Village Carlton

I absolutely love this place i could stay for hours and still not be there long enough. So much to see . Someone's junk is someone's happy. Love the library the furniture the bric brac. And love the fact it's giving those that fell on terrible times a chance to be someone again - be somebody who matters. And the food in the bistro is fresh and served with a smile. They take pride in their service . And I never go there with nothing in the car boot -it's crammed with stuff we no longer need and we always come back with something we needed too !! A picture a book or something I didn't know I wanted til I saw it at emmaus in carton . X
