Description: From the creators of the legendary Sweet Basil in Vail Colorado, comes a fresh, innovative new restaurant. Aptly named Mountain Standard, this rustic and relaxed tavern aims to set a new standard in the Vail valley by using an ancient form of cooking. The majority of Mountain Standard’s menu is prepared via the most primal cooking method: over an open and live wood fire. The only restaurant in the valley to devote themselves to this age-old way of cooking, the food at this exciting new restaurant has rustic, bold and honest flavors, focusing on the purest ingredients in the Rocky Mountain region and beyond.Service, like the cuisine, has that perfect balance of providing a first class dining experience with a more casual vibe. There is no smoke and mirrors here – no fuss – just simple, honest, from the heart service and cooking. The beauty of the creek side location is mirrored by the high energy vibe of this dynamic restaurant. It is this energy, outstanding service, and hand crafted food that enables Mountain Standard to offer a truly unique dining experience, approachable and enjoyable to everyone.

We love to visit Vail but this was our first time to stop at MS restaurant. The location is perfect for enjoying the outdoor patio along the creek or inside for a more cozy atmosphere. We sat outside because the weather was perfect. We enjoyed the pimento cheese appetizer - yummy; a great garden fresh salad along with huge burgers cooked to perfection. Good selection of beer and wine too.

This restaurant had an eclectic menu that included some really delicious items. Environment was cozy, yet modish.
I highly recommend the pimento cheese appetizer & the Mr. Pink cocktail.

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Mountain Standard. The Pimento cheese is outstanding as well as the biscuits with ham. The shrimp and grits wasn’t the best I’ve ever had, but they were good. I would definitely go back on a return visit.

This restaurant never disappoints. We had steaks cooked to the correct temperatures. The wine lis is impressive, even for glass servings. The octopus was tender, not chewy. The chicken liver mouse (yes, I was adventurous) was surprisingly delicious - the waiter was right. It was like dessert. The babaganoush was great but it needed a better quality olive oil on top. The only damper to our dinner: the maitre d telling us there were reservations waiting for our table.

This was my favorite restaurant in Vail during our 3 night stay! We ordered the hot olives and their bone marrow appetizers ...and let me tell you, the bone marrow was out-of-this world!!!! I had the hanger steak which was excellent. My husband had the chicken which was flavorful, but a little on the dry side. The atmosphere is fun and they have a varied menu and a nice wine selection. I highly recommend Mountain Standard for dinner for anyone visiting Vail.
