We were able to book a room at this hotel on very short notice during the height of tourist season and were pleased to find the room very clean and comfortable. We had a room on the opposite side from the highway so were not bothered with the sound of traffic. There are nice views of the mountains all around and it was quiet both nights we were there. The hot tub and pool area was great and the continental breakfast was adequate enough. Since we spent time in both Ouray and Telluride, this was a perfect "basecamp" location.

This hotel is clean. That's the only reason I've given them three stars. I am in sales and have traveled Colorado and Wyoming, highways and back roads for 28 years. I've stayed in dumps and I've stayed in Best Westerns. I rarely have stayed in a Marriott or Hyatt. It doesn't have to be fancy, but it has to be clean and it has to be a reasonable price. The price is my complaint with this hotel. I read other reviews and I think the impression can be given that this is a nice hotel. In my opinion, this is a clean, but dated hotel with lower standards that feel they can ask an exorbitant price. The TV reception was bad, the soap and shampoo were poor quality (no conditioner, no biggie, but again for the price...), old, hard towels, impossible to regulate shower water temperature, and the breakfast was horrible. All sugar. My carton of milk was spoiled.
All this to say, I have stayed at hotels like this many times throughout my years, but never have I paid $175. I just returned from a week in Manhattan and paid the same amount for a beautiful, well maintained and updated room. I do take personal responsibility as I didn't plan that evening of my trip well and I didn't have time to return to Montrose so that was my only choice (they are the only hotel in town), but the following night I stayed in Telluride for less than that at a place I enjoyed much more and felt was of a good value.
I just felt taken, especially since the hotel was not at all full and it's not the height of the season. I write this because I don't feel most of the other reviews give a true picture of what you're going to get for $175 in September.

The room was clean and comfortable but was quite expensive for just one night.

The motorbikes parking up kept waking us up through the night which was annoying.

The hostess was lovely though, very friendly.

There was 2 sweet dogs there too.

There was an indoor pool and spa that guests can use for free.

We actually stayed in Ouray the night before and it was nicer and more reasonably priced

We are literally sitting here now, just about to fall asleep when the people next door come in for the night. I can hear EVERYTHING they are saying. Walls are thin. It is keeping my whole family up right now. My poor 3 and 4 year old kids are so wore out and tired. We came here to rest and relax and get away from all the noise. And here we are listening to all the action next door. When I go tell the front I want another room, she calls the other room and says he needs to move away from the desk in the room and he is talking too loud, so RUDE. I will not be staying here again. Not happy at all. Looks like we will be up all night listening to this guy's life story. Such a waste of a good $150. I would rather sleep in my car in the parking lot.

We are very sorry. From what I understand the Front Desk clerk asked him to not talk so loud or take his phone off of speaker but apparently he choose not to.

Again, we want to tell you how sorry we are.

We have stayed here 3 times...we have enjoyed our visit every time although we were a little surprised this last time that they didn't know which room we would be in or have it cleaned only 12 minutes before the 3 o'clock check in time but when we returned an hour and half later they did have it ready...the beds and pillows are super comfortable and rooms are clean...coffee pot, microwave, refrigerator, blow dryer in the rooms are very handy to have...the heated pool is amazing and so is the hot tub.. There are restaurants close, and only a few miles from Ouray. The view from the window facing the road is an amazing view of the mountains.. Its a nice quiet place, we would stay here again and again.
