We stayed here 3 nights as a base for traveling the trails over the mountain passes hear Ouray and had a great time. Our room was extremely clean and equipped in western style. The balcony was just above a stream going down the mountain the back of the Inn. Ouray is very close to all the trails; Black Bear Pass, Engineers Pass etc. and there a mines, ghost towns that need exploring. Hiking trails, mountain bikes trails are all within easy reach. The Inn serves a good morning continental breakfast. The city visitor center is only two blocks away to start planning your activities.

Room Tip: Better view from the second floor of the mountains and stream. Stream provides great sleeping

The setting is wonderful, the room was nicely decorated, amenities were fine, and the sound of the river hypnotic. Unfortunately, the hotel uses scented laundry detergent and/or softener, the smell of which was immediately noticeable upon entering the room. My wife is quite sensitive to artificial fragrances (and bleach), but I'm much more tolerant; however, this was strong enough to begin giving both of us mild headaches in a short period of time.

Katie at the desk was (slightly) apologetic, but said they use commercial products, they're all scented, and everybody else in town would be the same way. Well, after talking to Karen who agreed to refund our payment if we decided not to stay, we visited three other places whose linens surprisingly lacked strong scents. We'll end up having to stay in two or three different places now, which is more than a minor inconvenience, but at least we get able to sleep in the rooms.

With the large number of people suffering from allergies and sensitivity to odors today, why a hotel would use plug-in air fresheners (an issue we had elsewhere) or scented laundry supplies escapes me. This really is too bad. We loved everything else about the place.

.....

I wanted to add that we left the windows open while we went to dinner, and when we came back, the smell had lessened, but soon after the windows were closed, the scent was again evident. That's when I went back to the desk, advised we simply couldn't stay, and my (full) refund was processed - politely.

We enjoyed 2 nights. The hotel is in a good location walking distance to town. The rooms were clean with 2 very large quality beds, sitting area with a couple office chairs (not comfortable) and a picturesque deck overlooking the river. We did not use the deck since we were out touring/hiking during the day and it was a bit cold at night. We used the central hot tub which was nice and clean. We were not a fan of the older classic Western decorating everywhere and think the rooms and facility could use an update. Breakfast area was a bit crowded and just okay for a continental. We hiked up to the falls and found it to be mostly gravel roads around the edge of town and the falls were nothing to write home about.

This place is a hidden gem - lovely people, great location (easy trail right behind our unit where we could walk into town). We liked it so much we stayed an extra day there. Going to sleep at night with the window open and the river rushing by outside was BLISS!!! Thanks guys, we'll definitely be back!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the river (I think they all do, but just in case)

Stayed three nights at Hot Springs Inn. If we ever make our way back to beautiful Ouray, we would not hesitate to stay here again. Rooms were very spacious with TWO King size beds. Very cute western decor. Everything was super clean and organized. Extremely comfortable rooms and excellent free breakfast. Balcony over the river with a backdrop of beautiful ledges. Could walk to town and restaurants, but it's probably 1/2 mile or so. Right near the town hot springs, and almost across the street from the start of the outstanding Ouray Perimeter hiking trail. Ouray is a pretty special place and the Hot Springs Inn offers a wonderful option for a visit.
