“Great & Hot Mexican Food in a Dive”

Despite the sign that reads "pan," La Abeja is much more than a Bakery. It serves tacos, burritos, etc.

I'm not going to sugar coat it, the place is a bit of a dive. It's clean an all that, but the restaurant itself is low rent and plain.

But the food is delicious. I just got back from Mexico and the food is pretty much the same as you would find in old Mexico. And it has the same generous portions.

You're not going to see mango pico de gallo, but you can get a good burrito with serious hot pepper sauce. If you love spicy hot food that sticks to you ribs, this is the place to visit.

A word to the wise, the chicharrón is not served crispy, like you would typically find in the USA.

All in all, it is a great place to pop over for breakfast or lunch.

Oh La Abeja, how can I express my love for you appropriately. No fancy seating, Spanish menu board, little hole in the wall on Colfax, walking down the street most people would pass you. Don't make the same mistake. Authentic Mexican food and tacos! From tortas to tacos to huevos rancheros to weekend Menudo, La Abeja consistently serves great food and service.

Chicken enchiladas had a very nice sauce with a good kick – easy to tell that the sauce was freshly and carefully prepared. The chicken itself was quite tasty, and everything on the plate was good. The place is very small and unassuming. The fellow who took our order also prepared the food. He and the waiter were both very friendly and gracious.

With menu items like "Desayuno #1" you know it's the real deal. Family owned and family friendly - this is a spot I love to visit. When I miss Mexico and Central America - I drop in for a bite. Do not miss it!
