We drove from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek to see the leaves turning. It was clearly peak season for such a great autumn drive. Our young kids were excited to get to ride on the train. It was a fun 45-minute train ride with some great scenic views. Definitely worth taking a ride on when you go up into the Rockies from Denver or Colorado Springs.

Tip: Sit as far away from the steam engines as you can. Depending on the wind you may get quite a bit of smoke coming your way.

The best part of the trip was when they pulled the train's lever and listened to the echo in the mountains. The kids enjoyed the train ride, we did learn a thing or two about C.C., but we were disappointed with the length of the ride. You travel one way for maybe a half of a mile, then turn back around (not a full loop). There is not much to look at to be honest.

I can't say I recommend this place for the money. If you go, look on their website for coupons. With coupons I think we paid almost $40 for a family of 4.

We enjoyed this short train ride. We were able to see many old gold mine camps and hear about the history of many of them. It was nice to sit and see many of the views that were available. We would suggest to go in the morning. Also, we were able to bring our own drinks and food onto the train. I would suggest this for people with young children. I could see how teenageres would find it boring. The views were nice for all of us. My husband did not have to focus on driving and could actually see the views.

The train goes down the track a little ways and backs up. The views are better on the highway.

It is nearly impossible to hear the engineer/guide and the stories he told were either inaccurate or boring and unfunny.

It is neat to ride a train in this area but once is more than enough. Not a good value at all. Get a buck off online.
