I'm here on business for the month of September and what a treat to find this place just one block from my hotel. It's simple, unpretentious, delicious, great price point and has a good vibe. Wood fired pizza including gluten free options for crust and pastas too. I'll be visiting a few more times before I depart.

One would think that the new restaurant in Willits, Mezzaluna, which is affiliated with the one in Aspen, would be able to prepare a decent pizza. Well, you’re wrong, very wrong. Most importantly, the dough that is used is terrible, prefabricated somewhere offsite, maybe in China. It is definitely the worst pizza I have had in the Roaring Fork Valley, worse than Domino’s and even Pizza Hut’s. Furthermore, the pricing is cockeyed: a Sausage pizza with roasted tomato sauce and fresh mozzarella is $15.50, but a Margherita pizza with roasted tomato sauce, fresh mozzarella, sliced tomatoes, and sweet basil is $16.50, but if one adds some slices of sausage (not bulk), the price is $20.50. One is paying an extra $5.00 for a few slices of non-local tomatoes and basil. Please. Another person ordered a simple greens salad with a free-range chicken breast add-on. That might have been acceptable if the chicken accompanied the salad but as it was, it came after everyone had finished their meal in spite of our repeatedly asking “Where’s the chicken?” Maybe someone had to run over to Whole Foods to buy some chicken. The one entrée that looked appealing was the Pappardelle Bolognese.
The service was quite good except for the failure to serve the chicken and the ambiance pleasant, although the sound-absorbing panels on the ceiling were not very effective.

Steven,
Thank you for your visit. Your review is angry and intended to be damaging. Certainly all you had to do was speak with us if you were not happy in any way. We pride ourselves on making superb food from scratch every day using only fresh ingredients.

Wood fired pizzas are awesome. The rest of the menu is great too if you want to go a little fancier. Friendly family atmosphere. Great cocktails featuring locally made spirits.

Whilst visiting friends in Carbondale Colorado we decided to eat at Mezzaluna Willits for dinner. The restaurant had only been open for 5 weeks so it was an opportunity to sample the menu and get a general feel for the place. The menu was concise together with a menu of the day, excellent wine list with both food and drinks priced very competitively. Staff were welcoming and attentive.

A few minor things required to make it even better, when serving spaghetti or linguine dishes a spoon is always helpful.

On paying for the meals on UK credit card you need to ensure that staff are aware that a PIN number is required for verification. On this occasion the waiter returned to the table asking if I had another card and returned asking the same when presented with a different card. Following the embarrassment and a phone call to the credit card company it transpired that the reason for the failure was the lack of pin. This was rectified when I accompanied the waiter and entered the code. Unfortunately the quick call to the UK on my cell will now cost me an extra $7.00
