We decided to visit Vanessa's for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. To our surprise, they serve a Happy hour menu from Opening time to 6pm. It is actually not a Happy Hour priced menu - just reduced prices on small plates. That was totally OK with me as I can check out the food on a small plate format. We ordered;

- Carpaccio ender and very fresh - wonderful dish $8.95
- Crispy chicken spring rolls - Very delicious, fresh and not greasy!! - $8.95
- Small pulled pork Bahn Mi - this was a small sandwich and looked like a regular size!! $8.95
- Wines and beer on HH menu were also discounted.

The service was excellent- always checking on us. They serve in beautiful Schott glasses (which makes the wine taste better IMO).

I've eaten at the original Vanessa's, on Solano Ave, several times. And this one suffered by comparison in every way. The menu is less interesting. My 3 or 4 favorite dishes from the original Vanessa's are not offered here. The food wasn't quite as good. The service is somewhat bizarre. Every single thing we were served (including our drinks) was placed on one corner of the table, and we had to reach across and bring each item within reach. And it was really loud at the beginning of our meal. I'm not sure why they keep the Vanessa's name. It leads people like me, who know that location, to have certain expectations, and that in turn just leads to disappointment. Keeping the same name, for example, makes it sound like they are branches of the same restaurant, with the same menu.

This is not your typical Vietnamese restaurant. While they have some of the usual suspects you can also get very tasty lettuce wraps, chicken dishes (the wings are very delicious and looked more like drumsticks) and even carpaccio.

Service is friendly and efficient although it can slow down a little bit when they get overrun with customers. Super popular so you might have to wait at the busiest times.

Went with another couple on a Saturday night before going to the theater. Had a 6:00 reservation. Food was good and plentiful. However by 7:00 we had a hard time hearing across the table. This is not a large restaurant. Keep this in mind when you go.

My husband and I and our 6 friends gathered at Vanessa's for lunch on Saturday. The restaurant is quiet enough to have a decent conversation! The decor is warm and inviting. The food is delicious! The menu offers tapas, salads, main courses, Vietnamese sandwiches, and a great variety of drinks, made by the great mixologist, Michael. Michael is a fun, knowledgeable, warm person, whose mother is Vanessa. The service is efficient and friendly. The cuisine is superb. The prices are moderate. All of us enjoyed a delicious lunch in a relaxed atmosphere with friendly service. Parking in Walnut Creek can be difficult. We all parked at the city owned parking lot next to the Lesher Center. And, the best of all, Tapa Tuesday's finds tapas at half price!
