If you can score one of the lakeview suites midweek, you'll be glad you did! Beautiful views, a sandy private beach and super-friendly service make Mourelatos a nice stop on the north shore. A little spring maintenance is in order after this rough winter, but that can be easily overlooked if you're focused on the lake and beach. I'll be back.

Room Tip: Spring for the suites facing the lake

Craig,
You are correct, it was a rough winter, one that locals have dubbed “snow-mageddon.” Our team is already busy cleaning up the resort and our first spring flowers have begun blooming, so we know summer is on the way. We so look forward to having you back. Our Return Guests enjoy discounts, preferred room placement, and other specials, so make sure to let us know you’re a Return Guest when you book! All of our suites have lake views and you can see the views from each room in the property map online if you want to request a specific room (no guarantees, but early reservations and return guests get priority!).

Relaxing spring skiing, enjoyed after ski on the beach. Think they serve nice breakfast, it starts at 8 which is a little bit late, ski lifts open at 8.30. The hot tub was nice and warm with great views of the mountains and some cars in between( parking lot) would like to come back in the summer as well.

Room Tip: Nice clean room, kitchen was well stocked. Comfy king bed, sofa bed is ok for kids.

Jenny,
Please do return in the summer. Our beach is nothing short of spectacular in the summer with tons of beach toys (paddleboards, kayaks, canoes, water trampoline), games (volleyball, disc golf, corn hole, ladder toss), comforts of a four-star hotel (chaise lounges, umbrellas, water chairs, cabanas, fire pits, barbecue grills), and more - that are all available to our guests and included with your stay.

Our stay was in late-March. There are some pros and cons to this resort, but the pros luckily outweighed the cons.

PROS:
LAKEFRONT - Every room has a partial lakefront view. Something you almost never get in Tahoe. You can get a lakeVIEW from many places, but you very rarely can get it at lakeFRONT. So wonderful to walk out of our room and within steps, be right at the beach, basically whenever we felt like it.

CLEANLINESS - Entire room was spotless and so I had no heebie-jeebies about feeling uncomfortable in our room.

FIREPLACE - We got a room with fireplace which made it that much cozier, esp at night. No forced air, just the heat from the fireplace... Never turned on the TV once. The fireplace, our music and conversation was perfect for our Tahoe nights.

HOT TUB - Very clean, and since the hotel had low occupancy (mid-week), we would be the only ones in there. Also the chlorine smell was very low, which I was happy about.

CONS:
THIN WALLS - Walls were pretty thin - we could hear our neighbors conversating (muffled sound so it wasn't clear) and coughing.

NIGHTTIME FLOOD LIGHTS - The property has some tasteful downlighting lamps, but they also had super bright flood-type lamps that shot through our upper window. We stayed in the room that had high ceilings, and the bright light would go through the top part of the windows. It did make it hard to fall asleep and stay asleep. They need to either put another curtain on the upper portion of those windows, or, get rid of the flood-light all together. It was definitely bothersome. Maybe next time stay at a bottom floor, or, find a room away from those night-time flood lights.

CAR TRAFFIC SOUNDS - It's a gem that Mourelatos is right on the water, however, the main street of North Lake Boulevard is right behind the property. You could still hear the car traffic, though low, in your room. They need to either upgrade their windows and doors to be more soundproof, or, consider staying on the very lakefront side of the property so you can hear the waves of the lake rather than the swoosh of each vehicle passing by.

HOT TUB PRIVACY - The tub is on the side facing the busy boulevard with iron gates as a barrier. It'd be helpful if there were some kind of privacy wall instead of just the iron gates. Kinda weird to be sitting in the hot tub in your bathing suit, let alone getting in and out of the tub, with the cars going by being able to see you through the iron gates.

Overall, you can see that there were both pros and cons to this place. But for the price we got off-peak, it was worth it for us. Having a clean lakefront room, with a kitchen and fireplace and hot tub all at our convenience, overall, outweighed all the negative stuff. Plus, we loved seeing the family work all around the property, who were all kind and curteous to us. You don't get that anymore in business, and there's something special to be said of that.

Thank you so much for taking the time to submit a review of your stay. It is the feedback from our guests that helps us decide where to invest in upgrades on the property, and we will consider changes to help with the noise, flood lights, and the hot tub privacy that you identified. We are so pleased that you had a good stay with us and that you appreciate the uniqueness of our lakefront property. As you noted, we are a family run resort and we like to welcome our guests as family and have them think of Mourelatos as their own Tahoe vacation home. We hope to see you again soon.

Mourelatos made for a great oasis in the snow-buried weekend in early March with 3 feet of new snow falling! Great place for staying in town close to Tahoe XC for cross-country skiing! The gas fireplace was the best thing to wake up to in the morning. I will be back for my next Tahoe trip!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. Our central location gives our guests easy access to all of the nearby resorts for downhill and cross-country skiing. Tahoe XC ski area is a local’s favorite, providing a quintessential Tahoe experience: access to excellent and extensive terrain for every ability level, friendly and helpful people on the trails and in the lodge, an overall excellent outdoor athletic and social excursion. (This is not a paid advertisement, we just genuinely love the place. :-) We look forward to seeing you again – remember to claim your Return Guest discount (5%-35%) when you book your reservation.

Short 2 day visit to Tahoe - chose Maurelatos based on web search. Loved the property and the room. Met the owner who was hard at work clearing the parking lot - very affable gentleman. Would (make that will) definitely stay here again. As for the town (Tahoe Vista) - there is no there, there. At least it had a Safeway but even it closed very early.

Dave,
Thank you so much for your review. I’m so glad you had a good stay and that you had a chance to meet and chat with my brother John out in the parking lot. Tahoe Vista is a sleepy town, but it’s only a six minute drive to the north shore casinos for 24 hour action and dining. There’s lots more to do locally, but we do roll up the sidewalks pretty early around here, especially in the winter time. We look forward to having you back - don’t forget to ask for your Return Guest discount when you book your stay and please think of Mourelatos as your own lakefront vacation home… one without any of the worries of homeownership.
