While I wouldn't exactly call Herrington's Sierra Pines Resort a "resort," it does have plenty to offer. Its location of just 0.5 mile from the main part of town of Sierra City makes it easily accessible to the few establishments Sierra City has to offer, yet provides a bit more quietness and seclusion from the car and foot traffic (which isn't much to begin with, but still). Trail head to Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is just under 2 miles away.

Our cabin (the property has multiple building; most buildings have 4 cabins each) has a superb view of the Yuba River and a little waterfall (that supposedly flows year round). It's not very big, but does have a balcony that allows you to take in the fresh mountain air and the views. It's kept fairly clean, though probably hasn't been remodeled for years. Bathroom is small, with a standing shower. Good hot water pressure. Overall, the room is a step up from most motels, but certainly not at a full service hotel level.

As 1/3 mile of the Yuba River runs along the property line, be sure to head down the trail to the river to take in some amazing views. There's also a trout pond, game room, and outdoor fire pit on the property.

The on-site restaurant is fantastic. I've written a separate review about it.

The highlight here is the super friendly staff. Susan, Rachel, and Mr. Herrington were such nice people - incredibly professional and helpful to us.

Do note there's no cell service in this area (no Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile). Wi-Fi (free and fast) is only in the main lodge building. If your cabin is close enough to the lodge, you might pick up signal. Our cabin was too far, so we were fully "unplugged" as there's not even a landline telephone in the room. Satellite TV (with limited channels) however is available in room.

We had a beautiful room with a private balcony overlooking a stream and a petite waterfall. The patio door windows in the room were so clean, you almost couldn't tell there was glass between us and the view. You can take a path down to the stream where there are randomly distributed wooden chairs to sit with a glass of wine and take in nature at its best. WiFi is good in the restaurant/bar, but sketchy in the rooms down the hill, where you shouldn't care anyway, when you are in such a heavenly setting as this !!

My wife and I just returned from a week at Herrington Pine Resort. We rented a cabin with a full kitchen & King size bed (very comfortable). This lodge serves breakfast and dinner. They have a full bar and game room downstairs (pool table & pingpong). The staff is very friendly and accommodating. This is an excellent location (short trip to Downieville/short trip to Kentucky Mine/short trip to Lake region). There is a trout pond in front. You might take a walk to the river and see the crystal clear water & the waterfall.

Clean accommodations, pool table, ping pong, and horseshoes, reasonable rates, excellent food, friendly staff, awesome local hiking trails, and enjoyed feeding the trout in pond, and stunning view. Thank you for a wonderful weekend.

I have been to this place three times before. We are part of an Audubon group that comes here annually to see the many bird species in the area. We like to stay here because of the nice kitchen unit. We have to leave early to bird so it is nice to be able to cook breakfast and make lunch for our outings. The bedroom is comfortable. I had to use the sofa bed which was acceptable. The bathroom is fine and especially nice with the new handholds. My only complaint is that one of the towel racks was not secured and kept falling off.
Very friendly and thoughtful reception staff...
