We are regular supporters of Ting Hau downtown for Chinese carry-out but they were closed on Sundays in August so we decided to try Kirin. We've heard that it has the best Chinese food Santa Rosa has to offer. We put in our usual order and waited a very short time. The restaurant was very full, and the staff was welcoming. The price was about the same as we pay at Ting Hau. When we got the food home, everything was just as we had ordered but we had these reactions:
1) shrimp fried rice: lots of egg in the mixture but it was very bland and the rice seemed not to have been fried but just steamed and combined with the other elements;
2) shrimp with broccoli in brown sauce: a generous amount of shrimp was included but the sauce was bland and the texture was like glue;
3) egg rolls: again, the word I have to use is bland; and the crust of the wrappers were very hard, so maybe they were overcooked?
We will certainly try Kirin at least one more time but we just weren't happy with our first order there....
