They make two versions of the same cheese. One is aged 3 months and one is aged 8 months. They cost $9 and $13 per pound respectively. This is a great buy for some very tasty cheese. I would definitely recommend stopping buy and buying their cheese.

Want to step back in time? Make your way down the gravel road to the Joe Matos Cheese Factory. As you turn off the paved road in the middle of real farm country, you drive past grape vines, cows, chickens and various barns and out buildings. This is a real working family farm, no fancy gates or towering buildings of stone like the wineries. Open the door to the office and the bell rings so one of the family members can come out of the cheese aging room to help you. They hand make one kind of cheese, St. Jorge, two different aging times, so subtle taste difference. They have been a family run business since 1979. We spoke to the 4th generation daughter about the process of making the cheese and she pointed out family members in pictures on the wall. Very interesting and really makes you think about a farmers life and appreciate the food you eat. The first time we went there we found this place by accident, this time we made sure it was one of our stops while in the area. There are no tours, but this would be a really great spot to take your kids, so they can see how a real farm is run.

I am very familiar with the "Sao Jorge" cheese, having milked a few cows there myself.
Although I was skeptical it was a great surprise.. it is excellent! Just placed a second order.

The place makes one type of cheese, Sao Jorge, which is originally from the Azores Island in Portugal, the cheese is strong so it is perfect for wines, If you're in Napa-Sonoma area you have to stop by and grab some cheese from here. We meet the owner, adorable Portuguese lady, and she gave us a tour in this little cheese factory. It was a nice experience.

You want cheese, barnyard, cows, a working farm? You got it! Drive down the long gravel driveway, past the field of cows and the house and pull up to the little store round back. i love this place. No pretentiousness, just walk in the door to the 4' X 8' area, stand at the counter, ask for a taste and then tell the nice lady how much cheese you want. I bring my out-of-town guests here, but before arriving, I build up expectations of grandness and awesomeness. laughter ensues upon arrival, but we leave always impresseD.
