Tripadvisor does not have a category for everything but the closest here is "restaurant". To me it is more an "attraction." I am a local and I hesitate to let you in on this "enchanted garden" because it's my go-to nirvana and is popular enough already. It gains new patrons daily because it is just off the well-beaten path of the oceanfront boardwalk next to the touristy Santa Monica pier -- the ideal foot traffic location. So you get a unique mix of populace -- tourists and locals. Tourists run the gamut from national to international, many of whom are world travelers staying at the 4 to 5 star luxury hotels gracing Ocean Avenue all to happy to let their hair down at the local watering hole, Big Deans, that coaxes passersby with classic rock tunes and ballads. There are 3 sections. The front open-air patio with wooden tables and umbrellas, the interior sports bar with several high-def TV monitors and the back patio bar (also with several high-def monitors. The food is higher-end pub fare that includes clam chowder in bread bowls, fish/beef tacos, burgers, dogs, garlic shrimp on a stick, chicken wings, salads etc. The tap beer selection is varied enough to suit any taste. But the charm and warm ambiance is hard to put into words. You'll know it when you feel it, buoyed by the friendly staff who will put a smile on your face and make you feel at home as you watch the endless multi-cultural parade of people strolling by.
