We were able to get a reasonable (for Santa Cruz) with Priceline. Plenty of free parking, clean and comfortable rooms. The location is great, right on Ocean and close to the beach, downtown and pretty easy freeway access. The area is safe as well. Keep in mind that the traffic in the Santa Cruz area has gotten as bad as driving in Los Angeles.

Room tip: There are some rooms with balconies, we didn't stay in one.

The coffee was good in the morning for the continental breakfast (and the coffee from the coffee maker in the room) and the room we got wasn't terrible, but a few things could have made a BIG difference. Carpets looked a little grungy to where I didn't wanna walk barefoot on them; there wasn't a vent in the bathroom for any steam and odors to escape (water pressure was great, though!); and the AC unit needed to be cleaned out because the air smelled pretty stale/mildewy. We wound up opening the windows instead since it felt better outside anyhow.

Other than that - comfy bed, nice big window for natural light, mini fridge, microwave, wifi, tv for the in-between visits from a busy day, and there was even a pool! Also, the location was pretty good to walk around to some shops and restaurants.

We stayed for 5 days and had no problems. We couldn't understand why so many bad reviews!!! They offered us as many towels as we needed and we were never charged. The beds were pretty comfortable and every appliance worked except the hairdryer so they immediately brought me a portable one to use. We didn't hear any noise from the other rooms or outside. The parking lot is plenty spacious. The only thing bad that happened was the water heater went out 2 days before leaving. We were offered a refund and early check out but we declined and opted for the cold showers instead. We had left over beers from the night before so we gave them to the super friendly housekeepers upon checkout. Pay if forward folks! We had a great time and can't wait to go back!

Room tip: 2nd floor is always best

Not close to beach or boardwalk at all unless you like to walk really really far. Really far. But Close walking distance to downtown and cvs. Low budget place. I'm not going to trash the place because the front desk ppl were so very nice! But.. old bed, old big tube tv, flat pillows, extremely dirty stained (nasty) luggage bench and comforter on the bed was uhh don't lay on it. They do have a breakfast included which is cereal, toast and juice. The front desk guy was so very nice! Sketchy ppl hanging out outside but we parked close to the office and all was well. Very small clean pool if you're looking for that. The room I had had a renovated shower/ bath which was nice. If you're looking for price not luxury this is the place for you. The owners could very easily put a small bit of money in this place and it would be so much better!

You get what you pay for, right? Well, this place definitely left much to be desired. We didn't have a place booked when we rolled in to town, this had vacancy and was close to what we were there to see & do....It is an older property, it needs updating. The comforter was probably from the 1980's & not the cleanest. The bathroom was full of mold/mildew & smelled of it. I wore my clogs in the shower to avoid touching anything! Our room was still being "cleaned" as we dragged our suitcases upstairs. There were a couple of (hate to be rude) questionable people hanging around the property asking for $, cigarettes, etc. They obviously didn't have rooms there, we had to tell one guy we couldn't let him in when he tried to follow us in thru a side door...he didn't have his own key, so..? For quaint Santa Cruz, this was, in my opinion, slightly sketchy. Better off checking out Hotel Paradox, right up the street.
