Hotel Santa Barbara is one of those long standing, family owned hotels that keeps the customer first in every situation. They have wonderful rooms, dedicated and polite staff and a great location in the downtown area, but also close to the beach. Love it!

We recently spent the weekend in Santa Barbara and stayed at the Hotel Santa Barbara. The hotel's location is excellent - right in the middle of shopping and dining. But visitors should keep in mind the age of the hotel. While the rooms have been updated, the walls are paper thin. Avoid any "01" room as they are next to the ancient hotel elevator and guests can here is constant whirring of the elevator machinery as it creeps up and down between floors. Guests are asked to sign an agreement noting "quiet hours" between 10pm and 8 am and there are signs in the hallways about the quiet hours. I thought that was odd but understood when I could hear a "whoosh" every time the guests next door flushed their toilet. The aforementioned elevator would be a challenge for anyone with physical disabilities - with doors and a gate to negotiate when getting into the very small elevator car.
The staff were gracious and accomodating. Parking for the hotel can be difficult to find - it is located behind the hotel and is easy to miss the turn into the lot.
If you like historic hotels, check it out. If you are looking for modern amenities, this would not be your best choice.

Thank you for your review of the hotel. The hotel has many features original to its construction in 1926, including the cage lift elevator (which has been modified to today's safety standards). We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and hope you will be back soon.

This hotel is in beautiful Santa Barbara. The newly remodeled hotel is in walking distance to the beach, pier, and marina. Great food and shopping all around this hotel. The staff are amazing, super accommodating and friendly.

Stayed for short time, but the hotel has a perfect location, very central and near the train station. The building is old, but it has an elevator (a bit slow, without my luggage I prefered the stairs). Very nice rooms, confy beds. The staff was friendly and helpful. I wish I could have stayed longer!

The price we paid for this older hotel was expensive because the prices were elevated due to it being labor day. The hotel was quaint, our room and bathroom were a little outdated, however the beds were comfy, the rooms were a good size and they were clean. Staff were helpful although I left my mobile charger and adaption in my room and when I phoned later on the same day, it could not be located.
