This isn't your neighborhood dive bar. This is something better. This is something for those seeking flavor, atmosphere, and of course, knowledge. This place is for people who know what they like, or what they want to experiment with. Chat up a bartender, talk about what traits and ingredients you want to see in your drink. Bounce ideas off them and see if they can come up with a recommendation. Dial in your preferred flavor profile. Introduce a friend to a new drink they might not have known of before. These are all things that you can do at Haberdasher. This is service.

This used to be single barrel and they've kept many of the great bartenders and livened up the place a little. Great craft cocktails in speakeasy basement environment. They don't keep you as quiet as the old days so it's easier to talk amongst friends. A great place to try out while in downtown San Jose, CA.

Look for the hat and tie hanging outside the building then head downstairs. The bartenders here are excellent in what they do and if you are not sure what you want, they will customize a drink for you. The place is very intimate which makes it perfect for dates. If you're order the Moscow mule you get to keep the copper mug!

Went on a Sunday night...and it wasn’t too crowded.

The bartender offered to help us customize a drink based on what we have a taste for. I love it when there is time to walk through a series of questions and answers (Q/A) and narrow in on the perfect drink for the moment.

There are also plenty of beers and cocktails listed in the menu, and there is a secret stash of hand written black books containing a multitude of recipes of favorites and unique offerings.

Ask for just about anything and these professional bartenders can make it for you.

We had a Black Savic from one of the black books of recipes.

A Black Savic is a citrusy absinthe drink made with an egg white. It’s always a toss-up which absinthe drink I like better: a Neptune’s wrath or a Black Savic.

In this case it was an easy choice-the Black Savic is actually named after me ... a result of one of the Q/A sessions a few years back. It made the cut to get stored forever in the secret black book. Pretty cool to have a drink named after oneself...especially cool when the bartender actually knew how to make it without looking at the recipe. Nice to know other people like it too.

You can have a great experience... maybe concoct another black book favorite or just enjoy the many options already available.

It’s a great time for small and big groups alike in a nice easy going environment with a great staff and great drinks. You will love it.

I found out about this hidden gem from someone at my work. This is our second time here and love it! The service is outstanding. Sid and Rachel are awesome! Along with the great service is the really good drinks. Be careful with them because they are so good that you don’t taste the alcohol and it does creep up on you. If your in San Jose, CA this is a definite place to go.
