This park is at the top of the Aerial Tramway (although I think you can also hike up if you wish).
I wasn't expecting it so I didn't really plan to spend the day there but if you have the time I'd suggest that. The 2 hours I spent hiking (really more walking) wasn't enough. Up here the air is cooler and clean and smells so great because of the pine trees.
Take at least the Desert View trail - it's well worth the effort. There are 5 lookout areas with spectacular views. Stop at the Ranger station first for a map and a chat with the Park Ranger - great friendly guy.

I found the campsites here to be bigger than usual. All sites have a bench and a fire pit. Some sites also have electricity. Restrooms are pretty neat (no water/light). Clear skies = lot of visible stars. Very pleasant night temperatures in June. Highly Recommend this campsite if you are in this area.

This is a review of Stone Creek Campground site #8. It was a wonderful weekend for camping. The weather was perfect, not too hot, not too cold. Check in was easy. The grounds keeper was very friendly and told us about nearby towns and hiking spots. The parking space is suppose to accomodate two vehicles, but it is a little tight. It has a picnic bench and fire ring. Bring a cheap table cloth for the table. The site is shaded with tall pine trees and manzanita trees to provide optimal privacy. Although private, it may seem a little small because of the surrounding trees. Bring lots of deete. The mosquitos here are not shy. We brought home made mosquito repellant with us and it did nothing for us and the kids. Supposedly the campground has new bathrooms installed but were out of commission. So we had to use the portapotty (yuk). Luckily we went early enough so we're still able to roast marshmallow in our fire ring. Our site is also close to a nearby trail that is wheel chair accessible (although I thought it was not) but very easy for walking. Only about a mile with a beautiful view of the sunset on top.
