We arrived after a tough drive in 45 deg heat and were warmly greeted by the young man on reception. He gave us a cold bottle of water as he checked us in. There was plenty of parking and the facade of the hotel had been updated from the pictures we'd seen online. We were given a nice room, clean and comfortable. The area was not the best, but we were not looking to tour around. The breakfast room was lovely, with all the usual bits, enough to wake you up and get you going.

We visited Sacramento this weekend (4/29/17) for a show and wanted to stay 'downtown' for convenience. Both Trip Advisor and another popular booking site gave this hotel '3 stars' ($83.00 total weekend rate) which is far too generous. We went directly to our hotel at 10;45pm and were 'taken aback' by the number of unfortunate individuals sleeping in the dirt, along the road within 20 yards of the hotel. That would explain the iron 6' fencing around the property and checking in thru a glass partition (bullet proof?) at the lobby and cautiously going up to our room. The clerk informed me that a pending 50.00 charge would be held, should we damage our room or it's contents. (We're in our 60's) The room smelled of marijuana, there were holes in the bedding, burn holes in the bedspread, questionable towels (only one set even though the booking was for two of us) and a shower so 'iffy' we decided to go without in the morning. Our earliest check out ever! I gave this hotel '2 points' because there are cheaper rooms in the area, so there must be worse hotels. And what have we learned? If you want to stay in downtown Sacramento, plan on at least $150/night and maybe go '4 stars'!

Room tip: A good room would be at another hotel!

My husband and I were visiting and staying with relatives and wanted to have a few days to ourselves, so my husband booked this hotel. It's located closed to downtown and walking distance to the Discovery Park. The hotel was under some renovations on the southside and I believe the hotel recently changed names. Our room was spacious with a king size bed, lcd tv, microwave and fridge which also included a recliner and high counter for storage. There was no pool and the continental breakfast was very minimal. As with alot of hotels these days, you will encounter some of the permanent residents at these locations. The stay here was pleasant except for a late night commotion down the way from some of the permanent residents but we survived. The hotel is a block from Denney's and McDonalds on the corner off Richards Blvd which is the main thoroughfare new the freeway. If you book here, ask for a room on the southside in order to avoid the late night traffic from the side street on the northside.

Room tip: select a room on the southside of hotel to avoid hearing night traffic from the side street.

The photos of this place and the initial approach make this place seem grander than it is. The rooms are jaded with stains on the flooring and the sofa in the "suite" area of the room. It's not as near to downtown as I thought, it is more than walking distance, especially in 38 degree heat, and the surrounding area may not be entirely safe. The people in the room below had an "altercation" with each other during the middle of the night resulting in police cars being called, so not a very restful night. On the positive side - rooms are a good size, well equipped and a room change was dealt with quickly, efficiently and without additional charge.

Nothing fancy but a good locaton near the train station and Old Sacrament. Easy walks to other Sacramento landmarks. Great staff. And the free shuttle to the airport is particularly good for early morning flights.
