No matter what your age you will love this place. You don't need to be a train enthusiast to like this place, and it is Old Town Sacramento, another plus. Walking through the old pasenger train and seeing how folks used to travel and bunk with strangers is quite a concept if you didn't know this.

The museum has a lot of items from the glory days of railroading and displays as well. We spent a lot of time in it and were fascinated by the old train cars and engines that are there. It is a great family destination.

Walking through the museum, I felt taken back to the era described. I learned SO much more then expected. The staff inside the exhibits are wonderful with information and answers. I went as a child and then again as a mother of teens and I was still in amazement!! Great place to go with the family or even solo.

What a hidden gem this is. Who thinks to go to a railway museum, but it was so much fun going through the trains we traveled on as kids. One of the trains rocks and sways to show what a train ride was like. The dining cars have original dishes from various lines. The sleeper cars are what I remember when I was a kid - closing the curtain for a night's sleep.

We have been several times with our two boys, the rail road museum is a great way to spend two hours. There are four interactive train exhibits, one is a dinning car, then the passenger car, then the cargo car then a locomotive engine. There are many other great things too look at, but young kids will only look so long. There is also a child play area on the second story that my boys like playing with.

I also would suggest visiting the
The Aero space museum at McClellan Park it is a great place for kids. On normal days there is about 5-6 interactive exhibits. On special days there is about 20. It is so cool for the kids to get in the air planes. There is also a space themed playground next door.
