We were a large wedding party of about 100 people. If you like Rustic type wedding party in this part of America this is the place.we did not see any wild bears but they are there! and you are not supposed to leave any food stuff in your vehicles! because will try to break open and damage the vehicle. There is a swimming pool, and you will find the Wi Fi strength is good near there. The little office has a shop not far from there for your shopping and drinks. There is cooking equipment in all houses, and a lot of space for having a party . There is also an open air theatre which can accommodate a big crowd. we enjoyed staying there for four days.

Room Tip: Rustic environment, lot of space, cooking facilities

We've stayed here twice now for an annual trip we do with 7 families--and it is awesome! The entire staff took great care of us with meals and activities to keep even the little kids in our group (all under 11 years old) fed and entertained. We love the fact that the kids can roam freely in the beautiful woods setting and the parents don't need to worry too much about them. If you want to give your kids a bonding experience in nature to explore on their own, Pinecrest Chalet is the place.

And not to say it's over-run with wandering children... Adults will find plenty to do here, too. Or not--and that's perfectly fine, too.

Yes, the accommodations are, um, humble, but they're also in the process of updating their cabins/chalets. We saw one of the new updates and it's excellent. But honestly, you're not coming here to spend all your time in your cabin, so appreciate the clean, nicely appointed accommodations and lock the door on your way out.

Super big bonus if you have any connection to UC Berkeley as the Chalet has direct ties to nearby Cal's Lair of the Bear--which is a whole other great experience in itself. But as a Chalet guest, you have access to the Lair by way of day passes. So Pinecrest Chalet is a reallllly great place to go if you need to get your Go Bears! on.

Room Tip: Let the helpful staff guide you to their best room.

This place is not fancy, but it is lots of fun. We had the Programming and Food options and happy we got both. The food is simple, but hearty. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. This was a great Winter Lair experience!

Room Tip: Ask the staff which room they would recommend for your size group.

We just returned from a Winter Lair weekend at Pinecrest Chalet. Fresh air, clean and quiet accommodations, good food cooked by someone else (not me!)... As long-time campers at the Family Camp next door (Lair of the Bear) we felt we were in the lap of luxury in our cozy little cabin with gas fireplace and full bathroom (!) plus fridge, microwave and cable TV we didn't use but could have. We did make use of wi-fi, and appreciated the lack of ATT cell service...

The Staff was great, friendly and interested, with activities for those who wished, and the traditional Lair knack for child charming. Several cabin groups included dogs, and the Camp Dog is a beautiful giant of a Bernese Mountain Dog named Sura.

As for factors beyond their control -- there was zero snow, but it was beautiful anyway -- bright blue sky above the pines; dark, starry skies each night and quiet except the occasional laughter of children exploring the woods. There was a campfire Friday night, and a musical event Saturday night.

They had vacancies this weekend. I don't know if they take last minute reservations, but it's worth giving them a call for a quick get away that seems a world away from the hustle bustle. You can plan ahead using the Winter Lair page of the CAA website, which I saw is currently advertising discounts.

We will return, and were delighted to find a taste of Lair halfway through the year between our Summer Lair camping trips.
