Convenient location, super helpful staff, comfortable remodeled rooms. Great old historic hotel. Check it out. Parking can be tricky check with hotel to understand the parking rules. Worth the minor parking hassle.

Room tip: 410 was perfect location.

This was one of the hotel choices for our grandson's wedding. It sounded good so we booked it. Upon arrival we were pleasantly surprised by the beautiful courtyard entrance. The lobby was just as nice (a great open room with comfortable sitting and perfect to meet or relax. The staff was very helpful. There is a bar and a restaurant on the premises. They also offered a complementary continental breakfast (adequate to start the day). They have an old charming elevator. The rooms have been refurbished and although small, they have everything you need. We enjoyed our stay and will highly recommend this property.

I knew going into the trip that the stay at the Petaluma Hotel that it would be a mixed bag of experiences and I was correct. Recommending this place is tough because it really depends upon the willingness of the customer to overlook some basic flaws; some people are willing, and some not, to justify the experience.

Right up front is the noise issue and a note: I am above-average sensitive to noises after living in a super quiet place for a very long time. That said, my room was on an upper floor, facing the entry courtyard. The recessed shape of the area did nothing to reduce the constant noise the came through the window. When I closed my eyes when I entered the room, I would have sworn that a window was wide-open but that wasn’t the case. The hotel provided earplugs but I’ve never been able to sleep with those things in my ears. Street noise, cars, people talking, was loud and continuous until well after midnight. The C.A.R.B. and community rules for noise from vehicles have clearly lost any power over the boy-racers in Petaluma.

A smaller quibble was the slightly scary steam-punk elevator. It was interesting-old-odd but mostly it was noisy, sending moans, hums and groans through the structure of the old building. Might try to get a room away from this dinosaur machine. I took the stairs after the initial experiment.

My room was a standard queen setup but it is a tiny area with barely enough space to walk around the edges of the bed. There is no dresser and the closet is very small. There’s a little bar-shelf area under the large TV that worked out OK as a staging/computer area but the supplied bar stool was un-needed since simply sitting on the bed worked fine while running the laptop on the bar. The bathroom initially looked relatively roomy with a nicely finished shower but there was an ergonomic issue with the toilet. In my room (not all are the same I found out), the toilet faces some sort of building structure encasement, leaving just barely enough room for my knees in the normal seating position, very claustrophobic.

Last quibble, parking. If Petaluma town really want’s this hotel to thrive, it might think about helping with the current luck-of–the-draw street parking arrangement. There was an option mentioned online for parking at a nearby bank but that wasn’t offered during my visit. Two of the nights I had to park a very long block away in front of someone’s house, NOT my idea of an adequate arrangement.

Now, the nice stuff. The entry and lobby area are great with a fun, friendly feel. There’s a small nicely served bar (merci beaucoup), several options for sitting or standing off to the sides. One evening we were able to enjoy a great cheese and wine tasting moment provided by the Barber Winery (tasting room that has directly connected to the lobby area). Another evening enjoyed some familiar beautiful company at the small bar run by the folks from the Shuckery restaurant next door. The few times I encountered the staff I got good, pleasant service. The décor choices were good, trying to mix newer styles with some of the old bone structure of the building.

The location may be one of the best features, and for many people probably worth overlooking all of the issues with the rooms. There are lots of fun stores nearby and a very good selection of restaurant options within easy walking distance.

Would I stay here again? Maybe. maybe. But that opinion would swing significantly if the Petaluma Hotel can find the budget to install modern noise-managing window assemblies (hmm, maybe an adopt-a-window campaign?).

Room tip: Find a room farthest from the any street and farther from the elevator.

Thank you for detailing your recent stay at Hotel Petaluma so comprehensively - we certainly appreciate it. We are pleased with your compliments about our lobby and the wonderful service that our team offers each and every guest. Please accept our apologies for any noise disruptions. We are in the process of making some changes in this regard, and we hope you'll come to stay with us again when this work is complete. Our elevator is a talking point for guests who visit the hotel, and the majority of people like its authenticity and enjoy it as a feature. We are sorry that the noise was the feature that you noticed most about it, and we would be happy to offer you a room away from the elevator on any future stays that you have with us. It is a shame that you felt that your room was a little small for your needs, but we do have a selection of rooms of varying sizes available for our guests, and we would be happy to recommend one that might suit you better on any future stay that you might have with us. We're sorry for any difficulty that you had with parking, but we hope that this did not inconvenience you too much. Should you have another opportunity to visit Petaluma in the future, we'd be honored to host you again.

The courtyard entry was beautiful. The lobby is cool and has a hipster/classy vibe. With the roaring fire, quaint bar, old suitcases stacked above check in. And the old school elevator we felt transported to NYC.
