Food was very good. Tea leaf salad had great flavor. Also liked the lemongrass chicken and walnut shrimp.

Service speed is always interesting to assess. Too slow is bad. You want efficient and attentive service. However, it can cross a line when it is clear that efficiency and speed is not about giving you a good experience, it is about turning the table. Felt this from the minute we sat down. This was a Saturday evening. I could tell by the drive of the waiter to take the order and get it to the kitchen that we were going to have to fight to be there for longer than 30 mins. I told him 'we are not in a rush'. A minute later came our salad. No problem they are pre-prepared in the back for serving but zero thought that we may be out for an evening meal, not to race off to somewhere else. About five minutes later came our entrees. We had literally been in the restaurant for about 15 minutes and were served the full meal. Actually there is some irony because despite the fact we ordered rice, somehow they forgot to bring that. Waited several minutes, probably 10, before that showed up. It was just paced so poorly that I cannot imagine going back.

Then the bill comes. They have added an "ACA Surcharge" of $3.50. I asked the waiter what it was and he said it was to cover the additional cost of Obabmacare (Affordable Care Act). wtf? Have no idea what political message this is intended to send but I am totally annoyed it is being sent to me through the bill (or at all for that matter). Add a $1 to each entree if you must but to call it out and emphasize they are asking me to pay it is pathetic.

Great food but I will never go back and if anyone asks me, they will hear about this experience.

Thank you for the thoughtful feedback. Please accept our sincerest apologies for the rushed service and the lack of explanation behind the ACA surcharge. The ACA surcharge by no means is a political statement, but rather a way to meet the demands required of us without inflating our menu prices significantly. Ultimately, all restaurants that have over 100 full-time employees, have to align their pricing strategy with this mandate in order to remain profitable or replace full-time employees with part-time staff otherwise. We decided to be open and transparent in our ACA efforts by displaying this optional surcharge because we believe menu prices should be a direct reflection of food cost and service.  We do realize this is a newer concept, but it is optional - should you not wish to pay the additional 3%, please ask your server, and they will remove it from your final bill, or, as an alternative, you are welcome to take the 3% out of what you would normally tip. We hope this helps you better understand our situation and remedies the chance of you dining with us again. If you decide to change your mind, we'd love to have you back.

Don’t know why everyone doesn’t love this place! The food is amazing. We had the tea leaf salad— crunchy & so many layers of flavor, followed by a chicken curry and walnut shrimp. The fresh coconuts filled with cold coconut milk was so refreshing!
We were impressed with the service as well. The place was full yet the servers managed to be attentive even when they were so busy.

We stopped in downtown Palo Alto to get lunch and this place looked interesting on Yelp and it was busy when we arrived. The poor hostess at the door was swamped and stressed. They accommodated us quickly though but we were sitting at a lone table out front, which was fine, but only two waiters and they forgot about us for a bit. Otherwise, food was good. Go for the more traditional Burmese dishes because the Asian fusion stuff was unimpressive. Girls loved the coconut rice and I enjoyed my briyani rice and lamb kebat. The local draft beer was good - Hoppy Ending! If you had a reservation, it would make all of the difference.
