The perfect family meal after watching Carmen at West BayOpera. Attentive servers, good drinks and delicious food - so many choices, it's a good thing they serve small plates!

Joya is a very good restaurant but not a good value. The tapas are excellent but portions are very small, even recoginzing that tapas by their very nature are meant to be small plates.

We were first timers here for tapas/early dinner. We got seated at an open window area overlooking the pedestrian sidewalk.
We enjoyed the different selections presented: kobe beef mini-burgers, latin empanadas, braised short rib tacos, calamari, and the delicious caramelized brussel sprouts. The 2 Manhattan cocktails were gently smooth.

We only tried three things, and I expect that my rating would be higher if we had been able to order more widely. But there were just two of us, so three things were plenty.
All of the meals come in a tall tiered tray which is a bit ingenious as the tables are fairly small and this is an efficient way to save space plus a dramatic presentation at the same time. We totally lucked out and got a table for two inside the restaurant but at the large open area that overlooks the street. So some good people watching as well as a very pleasant way to spend an evening.
We ordered the tuna tartar, the stuffed jalepeno and the argentinian hanger steak. The steak was quite a big portion and was delicious. The tuna tartar was bland, unmemorable and I didn't finish it. And the jalepeno was very cheesy, too cheesy for me even though I asked whether it would be. So overall 1 out of 3. Our table was great, but it does seem like a pretty busy place otherwise. Not inexpensive. If I lived in Palo Alto I would likely try them again. The menu has quite a lot of choices, but I am not sure if it's more trend than substance.

We were a multi-generational party of six. Two of us had not been to Joya before and really liked it. We ordered a wide variety of Tapas, including octopus, shrimp and mussels, brussel sprouts. The mini hamburgers were outstanding and not to be missed. Lovely ambiance and pleasant service.
