“Beautiful B&B”
Reviewed 19 November 2011

We stayed here for 3 nights in the Bellevue room which had an amazing view across the bay. Beautiful B&B. The bed was extremely comfortable. Service was impeccable. The wine and cheese afternoons were very welcome and it was lovely to meet other people in a relaxing environment. The breakfasts were also very good.

The staff are really friendly in this charming B&B, from maids to Julie and the wine and cheese tasting in the afternoon. There is plenty of choice around Pacific Grove for dining, all very walkable. All the recommendations given to us were excellent. It is very clean, there is a small parking lot, but there is ample on-street parking.

It is a nice easy walk even to the aquarium, we just loved sitting and watching sea otters. You don't need to go in the aquarium to see them, there's just loads swimming away in the bay.
Our room had no TV, but by the time we got back from dining, combined with fresh air we were ready for bed anyway. Wifi was everywhere.

The breakfast is tasty, you can have a choice from fruit, hot breakfast, pastries ... or like me had a bit of everything.

Our weather in August was the usual (I think) for Monterey, with plenty of fog. We also timed our stay with 'the car event - concourse d'elegance???'.....we wondered why the prices were a bit higher! Although we are not into cars it was nice to see all the vintage cars going for a spin around 17 mile drive. (But this shuts for one day during the week... )

we stayed here for one week at the end of an epic 4 weeks of national parks. It was nice to settle down and relax.

Having stayed in a string of B&Bs during our stay in the US, Seven Gables was a little different from what we were used to. However after initial concerns we soon settled in and very much enjoyed our stay.

The staff were cheerful and extremely accommodating. One morning we left the Inn before breakfast was served and we asked if they would be able to give us some food to take away. The manager was happy to oblige and in the morning we picked up a breakfast of fruit, yoghurt and pastries.

The room was very pleasant and had a great view. The décor of the Inn seemed a little ostentatious but it was charming in it’s own way once you got used to it! Wine, cheese and other snacks (including some delicious fudge) were served every afternoon, which once we had tried, we made an effort to get back for every day!

The breakfast was not as good as we had experienced at the B&Bs we stayed at on our holiday and I think the reason for this is that the Inn has to cater for a lot more people and so nothing is made to order. However there is a good variety of hot and cold food including some lovely fresh fruit.

The location is good for walking into Monterey and for lots of great restaurants. We particularly enjoyed Passion Fish, which served a wonderful selection of beautifully prepared seafood, the Red House, which had an unpretentious, friendly atmosphere and great food and the local Mexican restaurant where we had excellent fajitas and margaritas. The Inn was able to make reservations for us and were very helpful with their recommendations.

While staying here you have to visit the Monterey Bay Aquarium – we had a fantastic day out here and loved it so much that we had to go twice. Luckily, if you buy your ticket from Seven Gables you get a ticket which is valid for two days but which costs the same as a normal ticket!

I've stayed at Seven Gables on at least three separate occasions, multiple days. It's one of my most favorite places if you are in to B & B's. The location couldn't be more perfect. The ambiance, the views, the friendliness, the cleanliness, the proximity to other places of interest. Great place for a little r and r or even romantic getaway. Make it a stop on your travel by auto up and down the coastal highway. Rent a bike and ride along the coastal bike path. Most scenic views are in spring when all the iceplants along the beachfront are in bloom.
Adding to the ambiance is the evening glass of wine and the quiet morning breakfast.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the front along the Ocean provide the best view.

We spent a wonderful weekend in Sea View Cottage with our aging parents and adult children, sandwiching generations in this perfect spot. The staff was incredibly accommodating and patient with all our various requests. From the late afternoon wine and cheese, through the relaxing evening chats around the fireplace, to the delicious breakfasts, everything was picture perfect (including the weather).

Room Tip: The staff was extremely helpful in determining the best room for our group.
