Find somewhere else if possible. This location is great, across from beach....bed terrible....place needs a review by RCI for compliance to standards. Everything is old. The only new things were the coffee pot and knife block. Otherwise things are falling apart

If you like a small town feel in a complex of 12 or fewer units, then this is the place. The Blue Whale is on the great walking, bike riding, baby strolling, jogging or car driving one way street of The Strand.

The Blue Whale is a great small timeshare complex. Studio, 1 bedroom and (2) 2 bedroom units are steps away from the sandy beach. Some units have ocean views. I have stayed in all 3 unit types. The upstairs studio and 2 bedroom units have oceans views. My current stay is currently in unit #11, which is the closest to the beach, second story 2 bedroom unit w/ tons of windows and a balcony with an ocean view. It is the best in size and view in the complex. The staff is fantastic. This unit has been remodeled and is the largest w/2 bedrooms, 2 baths and 2 parking spaces, with are at a premium for beachfront complexes. The kitchen is fully equipped with stainless steel range, oven, microwave, dishwasher and refrigerator. The great room, kitchen and dining room have full on ocean views. The 2 tables can seat 10 people for dinner with ocean views.

You can walk to the Marina, Pier and downtown. Regal theaters are downtown, but do NOT wear your best clothes(see my review of it). There are many restaurants and bars along Mission and Coast Highway.

Walk The Strand and stay at The Blue Whale and you will have a great SoCal Experience.

Room Tip: #11 is the best ocean view 2 Bedroom 2 bath unit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Blue Whale we stayed in Unit 12 and it was perfect for our group of 6. there was a main 1 bedroom 1 bath apartment with a king bed and a pull out sofa in the living room and a separate king bedroom and huge bathroom with its own entrance The unit had an excellent view of the ocean and the sound of the ocean was constant as there was virtually no traffic ( a one way street between the hotel and the ocean). The unit was updated and decorated with beachy colors but classic. The whole place was exceptionally clean management was in site during the day and very helpful linens were replaced when we put used ones in the specified basket but there was no maid service parking was a little cramped and all units did not have a view of the ocean

Room Tip: Unit 1or unit 12 has the best ocean view

The place is very quaint. The location is great. The management and staff discriminatemail against people with disabilities. They should be ashamed of themselves. I left very sad. It was enough to make me not want to go back.

This resort is right across the street from the Ocean.A one way street. Slow traffic.
So no problem.
Very easy to cross the street.
Total 1980's inside.
A bit of re-do in the kitchen.
The sofa is tired. but comfy.
The units do NOT have A/C. The ocean breeze does cool it down in the evening.
The staff is very good, speedy and very pleasant.
They provide a fly swatter, and this is good B/C most of the units keep the doors open for the breeze.
We enjoyed the picnic tables a outside of the units.
Ate all our meals out there.
There were large umbrellas for the shade.
Also they have chairs and umbrellas for the beach, first come, first served.
We went to W. mart. Bought a pop up beach tent, it was great.
So, all in all it was a fun stay.
The restaurants are all walking distance.
There is a fish market, if you want to grill out and eat in. . The grills are clean and work well.

Room Tip: This place is always booked solid. If a choice unit 1 + 2 face the ocean. Unit 12 is on second floor good views.
