The gentleman at the front desk was very nice, as well as the gentleman I briefly spoke with in the morning. They were kind people who were very helpful when asked about grub and Yosemite.

The price was pretty decent per night. We had a mountain view room, which essentially means you have this window that just faces the highway 41 and the mountains across it. I thought it might face Yosemite, but I realize Yosemite is a bit further away than that and not really within eyeshot!

Parking wasn't a problem. Our room was on the 4th floor. We were instructed to park behind the hotel and up a hill, so you can basically walk out of your 4th floor room and right to your car. Very convenient!

It's about an hour and a half drive to Yosemite. The drive can be windy and has a few steep dropoffs on the side, but as long as you don't think about it you'll be fine!

Breakfast in the morning is mainly cereal and toast. Toasted raisin bread with butter was enough to keep me happy! Though some protein would be good, especially if we plan to hike that day.

My only complaint is that the room was a bit chilly. I wonder if you could request another blanket from the front desk. Or maybe we needed to play around with the heater or something. In any case, brrrr.

Room Tip: 4th floor room allows you to park up a hill so the car is right outside your room.

Located very close to the park's south entrance, this older motel has much to recommend it. The staff is friendly, the rooms are large, well maintained, and well equipped with a small refrigerator and a mice. Although the place was almost full, our room was quiet. Good restaurants are nearby. The only negative is the rather skimpy breakfast offerings.

We stayed here after spending the day in Yosemite. Wish we had shopped around a little more. Except for the mold in the shower, the room was clean. The place is in dire need of an overhaul, and the bedding and linens were sub par. To add insult to injury, our room was more expensive than our room at the Marriott Courtyard in San Jose. While the Wi-Fi was free, it was weak and continually dropped.

You can probably do better.

The most important concern for us when staying in a hotel is cleanliness. This hotel was moderate in price, the staff was very friendly and the place was super clean. Although it's a short drive up to Yosemite, we were very glad we stayed in Oakhurst and this hotel fit the bill for us. It's close to nice restaurants too. I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground floor room as this hotel does not have an elevator.

Upon checking into this hotel, our experience was poor from the very beginning: when hearing that we had a child with us, the manager demanded that we pay an extra $10 per night so he could stay in the same room with us. This was in addition to the $150+ per night room rate that we had already agreed to online. I think this should tell you something about the hotel management and their idea of customer service. In any case, for this price, I would really expect something nice.

However, things didn't get better from there:
- The rooms are your usual 2-star motel standard -- nothing special, just the basics.
- No hot water was available one of the evenings, so apparently they have trouble with their water heaters.
- The room cleaning was below average for hotels of this type.
- Internet access was a disaster. We found the wifi was mostly unusable during our 3-night stay, so that was also a big negative for us.

As other reviewers have stated, this hotel is located more than one hour from the center of Yosemite, and the roads are extremely curvy, so it's not a relaxing drive. If you're like us, you'll be exhausted by the drive to and from the park, especially if you try to do this for several days in a row. While this is no fault of the hotel, it is worth thinking about before you book.

While the very high price of the hotel was mostly due to peak tourist season, we were shocked at what a terrible value this was. Perhaps it's a problem all around Yosemite. It's unfortunate that a family can't visit the park comfortably without booking many months in advance and paying hundreds of dollars per night to stay in a hotel closer to (or inside) the park.

Although we can't offer any better recommendations on Yosemite hotels, we can say that the Yosemite Sierra Inn should be avoided.

Thanks for staying with us. As per our room occupancy policies we do charge extra child or person. We work hard to make our guests happy and appreciate your feedback! .
