This out-of-the-way restaurant surprised with excellent, although pricey, food. We enjoyed every course. We particularly appreciated the fact that the portion sizes were not overwhelming, and the selection of accompanying tastes and flavors to each dish was original and delicious. Very good wine list. We were disappointed that the bar was not operational the night we were there.
Note that this is not an inexpensive meal, but it is exceptional food in an unlikely locale.

Thank Revlucky

My favourite meal during our California trip, light food, cooked to the essentials and not overdone, like many US chefs tend to do. Superb wine list and great atmosphere sitting outside on the terrace.

BOTTOM LINE: If you are ready to enjoy truly excellent food, exceptional wines and great service, without regard for cost, this is a place you MUST go. We had the pleasure of dining here while on a road trip that spent three days in Oakhurst. I had been a bit put off by the somewhat overwhelmingly positive recommendations, but I was wrong --- Erna's is every bit as good as is said. Two cautions however, it is only a Prix Fixe menu and therefore of limited variety; and it is an expensive place to dine. My wife and I each had a 3 course prix fixe with the wine pairing selected by the sommelier and maître d'. The cost, including a cocktail each, and a tip of about 25% was just slightly over $400 for the two of us.

A special occasion dinner at Erna's turned out to be a night to remember. It was certainly one of the best meals we have ever had.The exquisite seven-course prix fixe dinner defied words; every course was interesting, elegant, and beautifully served. Every dietary limitation was accommodated. The menu was personalized and little extra treats interspersed.Every element of the evening made us feel special, down to the chocolate greeting on the dessert.

I've had the pleasure to dine at Erna's Elderberry House four times over the years. As always, this time was outstanding in every way. Food, service, and ambiance all blend together to give you one of the best dining experiences. I like that they seated couples and groups in separate rooms (groups make more noise). The wine list is substantial with many expensive choices, so you need to know what you are doing to tackle most of it. Fortunately, there are also some excellent, familiar wines to choose that are well-priced. We did not go into the bar, but on a Friday night it seemed to be full of folks in a convivial mood. The best meal deal is the $75 three course, which when paired with one of the affordable wines means that a couple can get out for under $250. Unless, of course, you really want a full five courses of food, each course paired with the perfect glass of wine.
