The location is wonderful and the food very good. I had a breakfast burrito and it hit the spot but the location made it.

One of my favourite breakfast places to go to in the Bay Area. I awlays ride my bike ~10 miles from my house to earn the breakfast and coffee/tea. The breakfast is nothing extraordinary but the setting is gorgeous, right next to the lake. One change I have noticed is they have switched their wheat bread- it used to be from Mayfair bakery in PA very very tasty, now it's a very regular wheat toast. Their pastries look great too but I just watch them never tried. The freshly squeezed orange juice that they serve is extremely popular with all. if you are looking for a relaxing morning, try to get there super early they open at 8:30 , by 9:30 it starts to get crowded depending on the season.

I eat here once or twice a week--I'm fortunate to live about 2 miles from it. The Lakeside Cafe is the one place in Mountain View where you can sit at an umbrella-shaded table next to a lake (OK, it's artificial, but large), practically on San Francisco Bay, and eat a tasty meal on the patio of a friendly, service-oriented cafe. Really, it's like being at a resort.
The menu is varied enough that almost anyone can find something appealing, and they make the full range of coffee drinks. They serve brunch all day Sundays, as well as lunch fare. You order inside, and are given a number to put on your table, and the food is brought to you.
One special feature is you can put in an advance order for a picnic box at very reasonable prices, in fact I think they are lower than if you order and eat at the cafe itself. The picnic boxes you can eat in Shoreline Park, on the lakeshore beach, or take on one of the rental paddle boats.

We enjoyed a great breakfast outside with a lovely view of the lake. It is a walk up. My husband ordered Croque Madame (ham, swiss cheese, over bread topped with a poached egg)...he is still talking about how wonderful it was. Afterwords we rented a tandum bike for an hour and rode around the wetlands. Nice!

We enjoy the Lakeside for breakfast, lunch or brunch about every month or so. This review will include (at the end) some points that others have not covered.

As most reviewers say, the wind-protected, on-the-water view is awesome. The location next to the watercraft rentals (all human or wind powered), and trails, and the historic Rengstorff House make the Lakeside Cafe a no-brainer choice for food and beverage!

Note: place your order and collect your beverage at the counter; take your order number and park it on your table. Meals are delivered and tables bussed, but there's not really any wait staff. Because staff do bring your meal and condiments, and they do bus your dirty dishes and keep the table clean, we do leave a small tip, although many folks do not.

There are specials on the daily menus along with a moderate range of fixed choices. The food is good - not outstanding, but tasty and satisfying - actually the desserts are awesome; portions are on the adequate-not-large side; service is fast and friendly, so you food is fresh and/or hot.

If you like Geocaching, you'll find some good caches along the hiking trails in Shoreline park.

If you have youngsters along, check out the boat-shaped play area near the Lakeside.

If you enjoy kite flying, you'll find parking on your right, just as you pass through the gate (free) for Shoreline Park.

Driving to the cafe is recommended, as It's a bit of a hike from the park entrance to the Lakeside Cafe, which is at the very end of the road in the park. Don't confuse this with Michael's restaurant which is on the golf course before you reach the lake!

Have a great time - I'll bet you'll want to go back and visit!
