“great hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 February 2012

we visited in jan 2012 and despite the cold temperature had a lovely stay. The hotel was delightful and monterey was beautiful. Hotel staff were extremely helpful and our room was very comfortable and very clean. The chimney pot fireplace in the room made it very cozy.Wish we could have stayed longer and taken advantage of the spa and pool. The hotel is in a great position within easy walking distance to the attractions of monterey. The 17 mile drive is well worth doing as the scenery is amazing!!! Would recommend this hotel and Monterey to couples and young families but not for teenagers looking for an action packed visit.

Room Tip: choose a room with a fireplace in winter

the hotel is in a great location in downtown Monterey. It's worth it to upgrade to
a room with a fireplace. Also there are great deals in the month of January, which is
its slow period. The breakfast is really good, but check out the place
next door called Wild Plum, which is a short walk and has stupendous food.
Casa Munras has a hopping happy hour that ends at 7pm.
The other reviews say that the soundproofing in the rooms isn't good, but we had
no problems. All in all, it can be a little pricey, but it's possible to have an excellent experience. We come here 3 times a year and have never had a bad experience.

This is a cute little hotel tucked away in downtown Monterey. I usually stay at the Marriott or Portola but deicded to give this hotel a chance.

Likes:

-The staff. They are very helpful and will go above and beyond what you expect. If I had a question they really tried to answer it. They check on you during your stay and in general keep a nice upbeat tone. Randi checked me in and she was very nice.

-The gym. It is small but pretty nice with everything you would want.

-The pool. Again it is small but it was warm!

Disliked:

-The rooms were a little shabby. I stayed in a king with a fireplace and although I was happy to have a nice fireplace it wasn't really that great. The bathroom is small and I felt the room was a bit on the dark side. They did have wifi which was nice, and it was clean. Just a bit worn for my taste.

-BREAKFAST. UGH Terrible Terrible Terrible. Do not...DO NOT waste you money on the breakfast. I don't care if it just a bit more cash to have it do not bother. I ordered eggs on top of a salsa with eggplant and basil. What I got? Eggs on stop of some sort of stewed tomato mixture with a few pieces of eggplant that wasn't cooked well and a leaf of basil. I also ordered hashbrown extra crispy. What I got? BARELY cooked hashbrowns. I
am not even kidding. They were even cold. I mean sure I was sad they didnt make it crispy but to serve it cold and barely cooked. They tasted frozen and old.

Just terrible. And with Dennys and a nie bakery ten steps from the hotel you would think they would try harder. Save your money and go to Dennys are the nice bakery. There was one other women in the breakfast room and she had to send back her dish. Just TERRIBLE

They do have a happy hour here that is alright.

We stayed at Casa Munras for a week for a work event. We had a nice room including a warm gas fireplace, large king bed and free internet. The bathroom is nice, although a little small (the closet in our room was very small as well). I believe each room is a bit different, but that's what adds to the charm of the hotel. The restaurant has good food- the staff is really kind and helpful. They have a fun outdoor seating area with a wonderful fire. They also have a good happy hour- definitely check out the menu. The mojitos are great. It's about a mile walk to the downtown area, but it's a nice walk. We walked almost nightly and it didn't seem bad at all. Parking is free. The little cafe across the street has a great breakfast.

I stayed here 3 nights in December. The hotel staff was wonderful. My original room was under repair so they upgraded me for free to a room with a fireplace. However, someone got sick outside my room late at night and then the garbage truck came very early so that first night I got very little sleep. Soundproofing the rooms a bit better would probably help.
