Cross street: Franklin Avenue
Transit: Metro Red Line to Hollywood & Highland. Walk west down Hollywood Blvd turn right on Orange and cross at the light on Franklin. Once you cross at the light go left and turn right at sycamore going up the hill. It is a very steep hill so walking in dress shoes or in the dark are not recommended. We suggest calling a cab at the bottom of the hill.
Description: Yamashiro - translated to "mountain palace" - broke ground in 1911 and was completed in 1914 as a residence for the Bernheimer brothers. Housing a priceless collection of Asian treasures, the building was designed as a replica of a palace located in the mountains near Kyoto, Japan. During the "Golden Age" of Hollywood, Yamashiro served as the ultra-exclusive hang-out for the "Club of the Four Hundred": the era's most famous and influential stars and movie moguls. The structure and its grounds served as a boy's military school and later apartments before being acquired in 1948 by the Thomas O. Glover, who discovered the beauty beneath the disrepair and refurbished the space. Currently owned by Thomas Y. Glover, Yamashiro is still flourishing over 60 years later as an Asian-inspired Los Angeles institution.

A family member organised a surprise trip to the Yamashiro for us and it was everything I had hoped it would be. The service was faultless, the food delicious and the views over Los Angeles as the sun went down were second to none. An unforgettable experience. And the cherry blossom green tea was one of the best things I’ve ever tasted.

We visited my son in Hollywood and he took us to this Japanese restaurant overlooking Hollywood. The view is magnificent. We had reservations for a Friday night but we still had to wait for 15 minutes to be seated. The place was crowded and very loud with a good vibe. We used the valet parking which was very efficient. The drive up the hillside road to get to the place is a little sketchy.
The food was very good but the service was about average. I enjoyed the sea bass.

Having been a regular visitor over the past 28 years to the mountain top for transitional sunset meals overlooking the visita of my adopted home town, I am happy to see a return to form from the new team, headed up by Billy. Very good work topped off by the usual superb views. See you next time

We had a 6 pm reservation, so got a superb table with a terrific view. This restaurant has been serving Hollywood from its hill for over 100 years

We tried the dumplings, salad, short ribs, teriyaki chicken and creme brûlée. We enjoyed everything

The service was courteous and excellent

Our hotel concierge suggested we go to this restaurant. An old Hollywood Japanese and LA fusion restaurant with great view. It is 250 feet above Hollywood Boulevard and has a nice view and interesting history about the restaurant. Valet parking is convenient and costs $10.00. We ordered an appetizer and sashimi. Our server brought soy sauce and dishes to use with the sashimi , but we had eaten it already. It took about 35 minutes to get our 2 entrees. The server told us the kitchen was backed up and our food would be coming shortly. The server said the manager was coming over and he said we would not be charged for our entrees. He also offered us champagne and 4 desserts. Unfortunately we tasted all4 desserts and all were disappointing, especially the creme brûlée. Our main dishes were cod with miso and sea bass. The sea bass was good, but the cod was not tasty.
