Cross street: Franklin Avenue
Transit: Metro Red Line to Hollywood & Highland. Walk west down Hollywood Blvd turn right on Orange and cross at the light on Franklin. Once you cross at the light go left and turn right at sycamore going up the hill. It is a very steep hill so walking in dress shoes or in the dark are not recommended. We suggest calling a cab at the bottom of the hill.
Description: Yamashiro - translated to "mountain palace" - broke ground in 1911 and was completed in 1914 as a residence for the Bernheimer brothers. Housing a priceless collection of Asian treasures, the building was designed as a replica of a palace located in the mountains near Kyoto, Japan. During the "Golden Age" of Hollywood, Yamashiro served as the ultra-exclusive hang-out for the "Club of the Four Hundred": the era's most famous and influential stars and movie moguls. The structure and its grounds served as a boy's military school and later apartments before being acquired in 1948 by the Thomas O. Glover, who discovered the beauty beneath the disrepair and refurbished the space. Currently owned by Thomas Y. Glover, Yamashiro is still flourishing over 60 years later as an Asian-inspired Los Angeles institution.

I came here for an early dinner with a friend before going to a show a the Dolby Theater. We ordered the wakame salad, cucumber salad, and an assortment of nigiri and sashimi. All of the fish was delicious an fresh, and the salads were flavorful and not overdressed. Plus, the wait staff were attentive and helpful while giving us plenty of time to review the menu and enjoy our meal. If you can go at sunset, it's worth doing so to see the excellent view from the terrace outside of the restaurant. There's a great city view from the dining room as well.

Road up to the restaurant is a little steep through a residential area, however the drive is worth it......
The view is stunning looking over LA, the food was great along with the Wine etc. Overall a great experience with a nice feel about it.
The singer was contemporary and added to the vibe.

My wife and I went to Yamashiro three times while we were in Hollywood; twice for dinner and once for brunch. We had been before and that's why we went back. It seemed better on this trip that last year.

We are both lovers of sushi and sashimi and were very happy with the quality of food we received.

Yamashiro is located atop the hill above The Magic Castle and the view of LA is astounding!

Also, the building is beautiful with beautiful Japanese gardens both inside and outside. We highly recommend this restaurant!

Food was great, service was awesome. We had some questions about the menu. The waitress was very knowledgeable. She suggested a few things that were On point. The view was ridiculous. We got a 2 seater by the window. Even if you are in the back room, that’s pretty awesome as well. I would suggest to get there early to get a great seat. Our reservation was for for 6. By the time we got finished the restaurant was packed. I would also suggest to Uber there. If not, you have to pay for vallet. And if you’re thinking about walking the hill is pretty steep.
