In a city of overly expensive hotels and ridiculous quality this place stands out. Helpful and kind staff with clean and comfortable rooms, all for a fair price! Very recommended and will be our pick for a future visit too.

My boyfriend and I stayed at Jerry's Motel for a night. We just had 2 days in LA after continuing our trip so we chose to stay on a budget and find something basic for a really good price and Jerry's Motel didn't disappoint my expectations. We got to the check-in quite late at 7 p.m. The owner at the reception was absolutely brilliant and welcoming. He gave us some complimentary snacks and bottles of water, gave us really useful directions for downtown LA (a list of restaurants and most visited sightseeing spots as well as a map) and gave us the opportunity to leave the car parked until 7 p.m. -the day after- even tough the check-out must be done at 11 a.m.
The location is super convenient if you are visiting downtown as is at walking distance but you can still use the car to visit the other parts of the city and you will still have your spot available when you decide to come back.
The rooms are clean and basic which is exactly what we needed.
I will definitely recommend Jerry's Motel!

This review is a bit long because I think there are aspects of Jerry’s that visitors should know about, in order to avoid surprises. All reviews here refer to price (low, especially for LA), and location (only about three long blocks from the major hotels and restaurants of downtown Los Angeles). But saying Jerry’s is cheap and well located is like saying that Chevys and Ferraris are automobiles. We might do with a bit more nuance.

Overall – Jerry’s is an excellent option if you are on a limited budget. In its category it is a five-star, and here is what you need to know in order to have a realistic picture of what awaits you at 285 Lucas.

Arrival and check-in – This is likely the only time you will see someone from the Jerry’s staff. Because Jerry’s has only 10 rooms, there is no need for a staffed reception area. You approach the front door, and communicate with the staff (really a family) by telephone. At this point someone does come out to escort you to your room. You get a welcome bag with bottled water, cookies and a health bar. A DASH (public transport) card and a map of Los Angeles.

The room – Obviously, I only saw my own room (7), but it was a reasonable size, although not large. As its name indicates, this is a motel, so all rooms open onto the outside passageway or the parking lot below. I had a large, walk-in closet, with a modern safe installed. Bathrooms are adequate, but with little shelf space for your toiletries. The rooms are cleaned each day and the standard of cleanliness is reasonable.

The neighborhood is really eclectic, and changes from one block to another. Heavily Hispanic with nice touches like the 15-foot high painting of the Virgin on a wall, where people leave flowers and even a candle from time to time. The neighborhood is up early – at six am there are plenty of people headed to work and to school – and all will greet you if you just smile and nod your head. A “buenos dias” will never go unanswered.

The location -- You can easily walk to the Westin and other hotels on the opposite side of Route 101, where you can meet your friends and laugh at the prices they are paying. Vista Hermosa park is just a short walk, where apparently you can see several dozen varieties of birds.

Suggestion – If your food budget is as tight as your lodging, may I suggest taking a meal or two at the Panaderia Chapinlandia around the corner at 3rd and Witmer? Owned by Central Americans (like several other businesses on this block) it is much more than a bakery, although it has trays and trays of Mexican and Central American sweet rolls and breads, just like back in the old country. The coffee is real mountain Guatemalan – so much tastier than the stuff next door at the 7-11, and just a dollar a cup. But the real winners here are the breakfast, lunch and dinner cooked by talented ladies in the kitchen at the back of the panaderia. Although they serve two styles of eggs every morning, along with rice, beans and tortillas, the stuffed chiles, the chorizo stew, and countless other dishes that are hot all day, are worth a trip. Mexican and Central American soft drinks in the cooler (Sidral Mundet among them), as well as the homemade drinks behind the counter (try the Jamaica – Ha-my-kah). There are three or four small tables, and a full meal with drinks will not set you back ten dollars. Recommended as the perfect complement to Jerry’s.

Booking – I booked at least six months in advance. Don’t know if that was necessary, but every night I was there the “No Rooms / Completo” sign was up. Probably worth some advance planning to save $150 a night compared to downtown hotel prices.

Room Tip: You might want to ask for a room on the upper floor, although really they are no quieter than the ro...

Nothing fancy, but who goes to LA to hang out in their room? Great place to stay. The goody bag is a great touch. Friendly service!
I give it 5 stars for being clean, great location, free wifi, free parking. My only "complaint" was the air freshener was very strong in the room. Be forewarned if you are a coffee person, the morning coffee is instant. Would definitely stay again!

The hotel was 3 blocks from the office building. I walked to the interview. I was able to park my rental car there for 2 extra hours the interview went over time. My checkin time was great my flight was 6 hours late i was still able to checkin. I called to confirm omw.
The room was clean, nice updated bathroom. A welcome to LA, package for out of towners, nice touch. Area i felt was safe all local people. No wifi but I did not need it with my phone.
