50th birthdays are about sybaritic experiences - so I chose the Kenwood Inn to celebrate with some girlfriends and my sister, who was flying in from rainy Manchester. The Inn lives up to its reputation, it is an idyllic mediterranean ivy clad oasis of calm - despite being on the main road.. The members of staff that greeted us were friendly and personable. They were also inept. They had only one room ready, which was to be expected as it was only 1 pm, however it did take a very long time for them to figure out which room was ready and how to lable our four bags so we could get them later when our rooms were available. The large glass of prosecco they handed us helped smooth out the confusion, and we were inclined to write off the awkward arrival as a one off. The eagerness of the staff to tour us around the property was commendable, however we really just wanted a quick lunch as we were starving and needed to be ready for 2 pm spa appointments. We finally got ourselves situated by one of the gorgeous pools and were brought plates of salad and hummus by the lovely Marcia, who also mentioned they would be greeting us with even more prosecco at the spa, so we stuck to water for lunch! The spa was beautifully appointed, check in was professional; the only sticking point is that the changing facilities are limited so we had to wait and go two to a bathroom to get ready. The facial and massage were of high standard and not the 'fluffy' hotel massages you are sometimes subjected to. We retired to the main pool after treatments and enjoyed an hour or two on loungers. The room was gorgeous, baronial Tuscan and very comfortable, great AC. However service totally collapsed on the Sunday night when we wanted to watch the Warriors Game in the bar. First we were told we couldn't as a wedding had booked it, then we were told we could for a while with the sound turned down. Then we found it really hard to even order a cheese plate and when we did get one, we had no plates, napkins or knives so had to use our fingers and couldn't get water. The wedding turned out to be four people and two watched the game with us....I think the staff were maybe watching themselves, or were so thrown with the huge wedding they couldn't handle two gals in the bar who wanted a cheese plate. They did comp us two glasses of wine to apologize, then the whole bill when they messed up again by rudely uncomping the wine half hour later. This is a beautiful place, but service needs work.

Room tip: we had a beautiful garden room above the saline pool and it was exceptional as it had its own terrace above the vineyard

We were a little surprised when we drove into the facility. The exterior signage and fence really do not do this hotel justice. Once we got in the front door, our opinion changed dramatically. The place is just lovely and the gardens are so well maintained we spent much of our time just looking at them. They have created outdoor spaces that beg to be used. Outdoor fireplaces were many and they were situated to allow their use daily. Add all of this to total commitment of the staff in making your stay pleasant, why stay anywhere else while in Sonoma?

Room tip: Rooms are all lovely but our first floor room heard allot of noise from the room above.

Excellent luxurious Inn and Spa in Sonoma. Close to all the sites and wineries. The staff is very gracious and you definitely want to spend more time at the Inn! Rooms are beautifully appointed with fireplaces and lovely fixtures. The dining was an experience! Small venue with lots of attention to detail!
