Owner description: Nestled in Healdsburg, the winery is in the heart of Sonoma’s wine country. There, we host daily wine tastings and weekend library wine & food pairings around our Family Tables. We also have a seasonal outdoor cafe on our terrace Fri-Sun at which we serve Mediterranean-inspired tapas with wines by the glass. Try your hand at a game of bocce in our shaded grove.

Grandma Seghesio took us upstairs for a wine-food pairing and history lesson about the family winery. This was a special tour available for $25 from the tasting room and was more than worth the expense.

This is a great winery. They have the best Zins. We have been buying their wines for years and visiting the tasting room. The tasting room has plenty of room for guests. The staff is very friendly knowledgeable and welcoming. No snobs here. And they don't rush you. If you have a Visa Signature Card, the tasting is free. Or if you buy a bottle they waive tasting fee. The grounds are lovely with big trees to picnic under. Also have bocce courts. Can't miss at this winery.

We visited Seghesio as we were in Healdsburg and wanted somewhere nearby and convenient. We live in San Francisco and the Healdsburg area is our favorite for wine weekends - we make regular trips up and have visited many wineries.

The building is impressive - the barrel room is over 100 years old and full of family memorabilia. Of course, there are no vineyards to see as they are all spread around the area. The service we got was second-to-none. Our host was delightful and took us into the barrel room to taste some of the older vintages with their signature sausage.

They also seem to prolific with their events calendar - something that's good to see in a winery. We are now on their mailing list.

Having said all that, we didn't buy any wine there. It was good, but none of it was good enough to splash the cash. We bumped into another couple staying at the same B&B there who said the same. The 2005 Rockpile Zin was my favorite, but I think Lambert Bridge do a better one at the same price point. The atmosphere is good, but not having the countryside and vineyards around it make it a little less special.

So after visiting >20 vineyards in that area, does it deserve it's #1 slot on TripAdvisor? Not in my opinion, no. Venture a little out of Healdsburg and you'll find more personal places like Nalle and Acorn, more beautiful places like Lambert Bridge and Bella, farmstead organic wineries like Preston or a tasting room that's a party long after all others have closed, like Truett Hurst. That's where you want to be.
