“lovely spacious property but had some issues”

Many positive things to report about this property. The condo itself is very spacious. You could easily fit 8 people in it and not feel cramped. The pool area and hot tub area are also very nice. The property is very well maintained and it is very quiet and peaceful. It is walking distance to shopping and dining in Encinitas. Moonlight beach is fantastic, and literally less than two blocks away. However it wasn't without some negatives. There was an issue with the coffee pot (sounds minor -- but you're supposed to have a FULL kitchen -- and the cleaning service simply shoved it far back on a shelf in the pantry with a note saying it doesn't work). Fortunately, it was merely clogged with coffee grounds and we were able to get it working. There are also a myriad of codes, keys and clickers with this property that I have never, ever encountered in a vacation rental. And at one point the garage door broke, with my husband inside -- and there was no door other than the main up and down garage door. Their was also an issue with a maintenance guy that needed to come by, but apparently never showed -- even though the property manager interrupted our sight-seeing to see if it was OK if he stopped by. Later on in our stay, we discovered that the key in our lock box disappeared (a mix-up with a new cleaning service / or the maintenance man???). The stairs to the beach access are also very steep and rickety and there is about a three foot jump that you need to make to get to the beach. You will also need to unlock another very heavy wooden door in the middle of a flight of stairs. You will also need keys to get to the pool and hot tub. A lot of minor annoyances, but when you are paying hundreds a day -- it all adds up to be not worth the hassle if you don't need all that floor space. I've never had to have so many communications with a property manager. We were so stressed by the faulty locks and gates, that the last night we parked on the street. We had a morning flight and were not going to risk not being able to get our rental car out. Not the worst place in the world to stay by a long shot, but we wouldn't stay there again.

I am so sorry Carol that you had some issues during your stay over the holiday week. I spoke to Eileen and she did speak to the housekeeper in regards to the coffee pot. Eileen was on her way over with a new coffee maker when you called to tell her that you had it working. I also heard that she was called about the garage door on your day, and it is unfortunate this happen right before your departure-The spring on one side broke and was replaced that following day, the same day of your departure, and we do appreciate that you notified us right away. The handyman was called to replace a water filter and check one toilet, and accidentally misplaced the key-he did come that day, at his earliest availability. Eileen put a new key in the key box within the hour; this was the best that she could do. The beach stairs-you are right, they do have a drop off in the winter when there is less sand than in the summer. I do usually advise the guests to make it easy, and just walk down the street a block into Moonlight Beach. The stairs are a little challenging to some folks, and the property management has plans to update these too. The key to the gates and the pool are the same key. There is a code to get in the pedestrian gate for privacy, and you do get a clicker/remote to open the automobile gate to get in-otherwise you would need to get out of your car and use the key, so it is provided as a convenience. I am going to pass on your comments to the owner, as any critique is helpful, and hope that you would come back to Encinitas again. I do have to say, we have never had complaints about having keys and remotes to keep unwanted visitors out of the property, and to insure the safety of those staying at the property. If the gate to the beach is not working properly, I will pass this on for immediate repair. Thank you again for your insight and help.

“Fabulous location in Encinitas”
Reviewed 20 November 2012 for a stay in October 2012

We had been to Encinitas in February as well as the Joshua Tree National Forest and Desert Hot springs. We thought about a number of places to take the children during a fall break. We thought Encinitas would be the best place. Warm, sand, sea, surfing, great food etc! We didn't want a hotel so we looked into Condos. We have friends in Encinitas so we wanted to be close to them. When we found the oceanfront condo near by, we thought that would be fantastic, beach, pool, ability to walk to the shops in Encinitas as well as close to so much in the area. The condo is very roomy. The master bedroom has a balcony with a table and a swinging chair. It over looks the pool and the sea. It was a great place to have our first cup of coffee. Access to the beach was convenient but there is a bit of a large step down at the end due to beach erosion. We enjoyed the jacuzzi and the pool. Some of the items in the kitchen are looking a bit tired but if you aren't cooking a gourmet meal it doesn't matter.
