We went to Porto's in Downey, CA to pick up dinner to take home. We waited in a long line outside, and another line inside the restaurant (about 20 minutes). The line constantly moved. When inside we discovered many choices for both dinner and dessert! There were many servers taking good care of their many customers.
We tried 4 savory meat specialties. The Potato Ball filled with seasoned ground beef, the Meat Pie in puff pastry, and the Chorizo Pie were delicious. Unfortunately, the Chicken croquette was in a short dough was very dry with little filling. Our dessert choices were a pineapple custard cake, carrot cake, a chocolate Parisian cake, and New York Cheese cake. The pineapple custard card could have been better if it had more custard, while the carrot cake had an excessive amount of frosting. The chocolate Parisian and cheese cake were wonderful. The cheese cake had a thin crust which I prefer. Every pastry and dessert was beautifully created.
My favorite treat was the Dulce de Leche "kisses". They were a light short dough filled with a smooth Dulce de Leche filing shaped like a kiss with an 1 1/2" base.
