Residence Inn Costa Mesa Newport Beach
Ranked #11 of 23 Hotels in Costa Mesa
Reviewed 9 September 2017 via mobile

I booked this hotel for its proximity to John Wayne Airport and the beach. I called the hotel to request a pick up in their FREE AIRPORT SHUTTLE, and only waited about 10mins. The driver, Tony, was very friendly. Gave lots of recommendations for local eats and things to do. Although i was early, the check in process was quick and smooth. This property is a generation 1 Resi Inn, so you must leave the office to access you room/s, which is easy with the provided property map. My room, a King studio suite, was nicely laid out and pleasantly quiet. The hotel is about 10mins from Newport Beach Pier, maybe $9 Lyft ride... The hotel does provide free breakfast and a managers reception Mon-Wed night with free beer, wine, soft drinks and light appetizers. Will definitely stay again.

My only bad comment, the free airport shuttle starts running at 730a which is inconvenient for early AM flights but its less than $15 to Lyft/Uber to John Wayne Airport.

We choose the residence inn for its location. It was close to fine shopping and the beach. However, we realized this place is more convenient for long stays and or families with young children since it had a kitchenette in every room. We stayed for a weekend and the first night upon arrival when we wanted to take a shower realized the water was running from both tap and shower head. This was corrected the second day. The front desk staff were very helpful and provided directions to restaurants and shopping malls. The breakfast was okay. Marriott has put this residence in category 5. I believe this place in comparison with other Marriott hotels we stayed, does not deserve more than a catagory 3.

Room Tip: Stay at second floor. Our room was at first floor and we could hear the movements of the guests stay...

We stayed at the Residence Inn for 3 nights. Our primary purpose for being there was to enjoy Disneyland with our grandkids who were staying on the Disneyland property.
It's a typical RI one bedroom suite with microwave, refrigerator, cable TV, and free wifi.
Parking was $10/night. We had a bottom floor residence and were able to hear people walking above us early in the a.m. Maid service was good and the complimentary breakfast was ok with the usual cereal, scrambled eggs, yogurt, waffles, coffee and juice available. The pool was nice with lots of patio space with tables and chairs to spread out. One issue was the amount of extra costs added on to the basic price of the unit....$34/night including the parking and a city tax. It just seemed excessive but you would pay more for parking at many other nearby hotels. We would stay there again but only in a second floor room. We didn't try the happy hour...complimentary beer, wine, snacks and soft drinks. If you arrive late in the evening most of the parking spots close to your room will be taken.

Room Tip: 2nd Floor best

We had a very spacious, clean room that included a full kitchen: refrigerator, stove, microwave, coffee maker, even dishwasher! A living room area, and lovely bathroom. There is a pool with jacuzzi to hang out at. Wonderful breakfast included.
