We stayed 3 nights here ...including Valentines Day. Paid over 400 dollars per night for a very average room. Tiny low quality bathroom with the only closet/wardrobe space INSIDE the bathroom. The shabby bath was also the shower... how can this hotel grade itself 4/5 star when bathrooms don't have separate shower?
The room wasn't available when I arrived at 3.30pm...nothing offered except a promise to ring me when the room was ready; they didn't. Had to kick my heels 'till 5pm. My bags were left outdoors even though it was raining.

There is a real attitude problem with a numder of key staff (which is a shame as other staff were lovely) But :
Reception staff were hopeless; always had to wait inline, never once got even a slight apology for having to wait and wait and wait. My bill was overcharged 3 times.

The guy who called the cab was really rude and banged the cab door on my foot.

The room wasn't ever cleaned before 4pm. The quality of cleaning the room was barely basic. Coffee for the machine was only left one day and just poor quality powdered milk left.

The reception at breakfast always involved a wait ; sever supervisor.... looked angry and unhappy no matter how much we smiled at her.

There is little privacy, touring sightseers wonder around in large groups ...not great when your in your swimsuit or looking for private romantic relaxation.

The one really decent feature is the view, you must get a seaview room.

Room Tip: Pay for a sea view...expensive for an just ok room but...the view is lovely

I always stay at the Del....there is just no other option in my opinion. But a lot of people share this same opinion, which makes for a fairly inelastic demand curve.....the prices remain high. While I'm not sure if it's "worth it" or not, I will keep going back, year after year. :)

Room Tip: Ask for the Kate ghost room months early if you really want it.

Since my daughter lives in San Diego, when we visit we love going to Coronado to eat at "the Hotel Del". It has a great sun deck with a bar and a walk-up, self-serve eatery. The menu is limited, but the serving size is more than adequate. Everything is made-to-order and very fresh. Locally baked hamburger buns and ciabatta rolls make the sandwiches something special. Besides, how can you beat a burger and draft beer with the pacific ocean up close and personal? The sundeck has tables with umbrellas or lounge-type seating around a gas fire pit. Moderately priced.

Such an amazing historic hotel. Ask to stay in the Victoria area for a real vintage feel. The B&S has a good HH and there is a great deck with fire pits to watch the sunset. Take the time to wander around and see the property. There are even hotel tours which are great to really learn more. The gift shop has a great coffee table book on the history of the hotel. It's pricer but stay at least once. If you're in the area and can't afford the stay right now then at least go to walk the beach and grab a cocktail while the sunsets

Room Tip: Ask for Victoria rooms for the real authentic feel

The Hotel Del is a wonderful resort and well maintained. It is obvious that courtesy and service are high on their list of priorities. Just don't let them put you in the Ocean Towers, a separate building away from the original hotel. The walls of our room there were so thin we could hear every word of the person next door having a normal phone conversation; and every time they flushed their toilet, we were right there. We were near the front entrance so anytime anyone had a conversation by the front door, we were right there. And the ding of the elevator's arrival kept waking us up at night.

There aren't enough electrical outlets and the prongs on the electrical outets they do have are a bit too wide (this is really odd) so your plug keeps falling out. This happens even for their appliances -- coffee maker and lamps.

Room Tip: Stay away from the Ocean Towers

Thank you for your feedback and we appreciate the recognition of our wonderful staff. We are sorry that aspects of your stay did not meet your expectations and hope you will return and consider staying in one of the newly renovated Victorian rooms or private cottage or villa in Beach Village.
