We were at the house for a week with three families spanning ages 2 to 58. The house was very baby and kid safe and friendly with toys and Pack and Plays, high chair, beach toys, safety gates and even a shade tent for the little one at the beach. The house was warm and inviting and the little welcoming touches were appreciated. The kitchen and grill were wonderful. Everything we needed was there from special utensils to platters and large serving dishes.
The pool area is simply wonderful. We spent more time there, day and evening, than anywhere. There are numerous places to sit and gather and enjoy each other. The fire pit helped us unwind each night. The spa was also a welcome place to gather and relax. There are chaise lounges and pool floats and beach towels were plentiful. We elected not to heat the pool and it was perfectly refreshing.
The game room with with ping pong and foosball was also enjoyed by all and was the location of much laughter and competition. Again, there are many chairs and ping pong balls, etc. There is also a great stock of coolers and other beach equipment there.
The location is wonderful. It is in a quiet neighborhood but you are very close to groceries, movies and shopping. The local beaches are all quite close. We went to Moonlight, South Ponto and Tamarack - some of our favorites.
The bedrooms are well equipped and honestly had some of the softest sheets I have ever slept on. There are two bathrooms. The upstairs area is lovely for the kids with its own TV and living room. The upstairs bedroom is perfect for a kid or two with a twin bed and trundle underneath.
We had a few questions and Destry was immediately responsive to those questions and our needs. We are grateful for that. She worked with us and her kindness was appreciated.
Overall, we had a family vacation for the ages - full of many special memories. Thanks for having us. We hope to return in a few years when we can get the gang together again.
I can't say enough good things about La Costa Paradiso and its owner, Destry, but I will say that renting this particular vacation home was the main highlight of our Southern California vacation. We are so pleased we decided to book it as we found ourselves wanting to be there, opting to hang out by our heated pool with our two sons who are 6 and 4).
The property is perfectly located, a few minutes from all conveniences (groceries, Starbucks, shopping, playground, restaurants, Costco). And it was just 10-45 minutes away all the attractions that were important to us (Legoland, San Diego Zoo, Children Pool Beach, Reuben H. Fleet Science Center, La Jolla Shores).
When we arrived, a little later in the evening, it was a wonderful surprise to be greeted with a bottle of wine, a non-alcoholic apple cider (which the kids loved), and a few cold beer in the fridge. The house was already very well stocked with condiments, coffee and the likes so we only had to buy the main staples for eating and not all the extras, saving us on food costs.
The house is located on a quiet street, very private. It was super clean and well organized, with a helpful binder that explained everything we needed to know.
The beds were super comfortable and this was the first time I've ever been on a vacation where I actually preferred the pillows to my own pillows at home. Even in the nicest of hotels, I usually prefer my pillow at home. As a result, we slept very well here. And more importantly, so did our toddlers!
The setup was perfect for us, especially because their is loads of security in relation to the pool. Our boys can't swim, so there is an alarm on the patio door, a lock from the main part of the patio to the poolside, and then a locked fence around the pool. We always felt secure with our boys wandering in and out of the house onto the patio.
I'm not sure what to say about the pool except that it was simply AWESOME! So is the poolside hot tub. We used the pool at least 3 times per day. When we first awoke, usually sometime mid-day, and always before bed. The kids and I couldn't get enough of it. And since the house came with all the pool toys, life jackets, etc that a family needs, it was always where we wanted to spend our time even though the weather was somewhat cool which didn't matter with the pool heated to my liking!
One of the big surprises (in a very good way) about this property is how responsive the owners are. We texted them about a couple of minor things and they instantly responded. For example, a few of the pool inflatables we blew up were leaking air...and as soon as Destry found out, she overnight ordered more for the pool...WOW...was not expecting that. I had only wondered if she wanted me to trash the ones that were leaking.
If you're considering renting this property, we highly recommend renting this property. I know they often booked in advance, but its worth booking your holiday around availability to ensure you get the right property. We will book La Costa Paradiso again for sure the next time we are back in the area!
