Our expectations from this resort were disappointing. The resort added unnecessary charges like a parking fee when there was an open parking for general parking that was not controlled. Almost every activity had a charge linked to it.

Dear Sonaarmenian,

Thank you for your recent posting on Trip Advisor. Your posting clearly indicated that you were not satisfied with your experience at the resort which was disappointing to hear. You made mention of the resort charges for parking along with our resort fee. If you had a moment, I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss your experience directly. If you could provide me with your contact information using my email which vikram.sood@caperey.com, I would appreciate it.

Vikram

I love Cape Rey Hilton Carlsbad!!! So romantic and fun... The fire pits, pool lounge area, pool side 80's music, ocean breeze... The staff was so kind and welcoming!!!
Room service was outstanding! Convenient to walking on the beach!

Thank you!!

This is a small find in San Diego that is perfect for a family vacation. The beach is across the street, the city of San Diego with Zoo's (Both the San Diego Zoo and the Wild Animal Park) are reasonable drive's away. There is much fine dining in the property and there are extraordinary restaurants and things to do close by. The staff is extraordinary and the hotel SERVES its clientele very well. Outdoor dining, indoor dining, fireside dining with spectacular sunsets, wonderful pool area looking at the ocean. WOW

Room Tip: Get upper floor rooms with ocean views in center section of property.

Be warned of the $20 resort fee per day and the $19 (self)/$24 (valet) parking fee per day.

I would not call this a luxury hotel per se, but a solid 4-star property. It's about 3 years old, so the furnishings and decor are modern and in good shape. I'd describe the look and feel as comfortable, hipster, beach casual.

TIPS & FYI:
**The ocean is directly across the street, down a large set of stairs.
**The pool was full of kids, including small children (so I was leery to go in).
**There is a complimentary hotel shuttle that will take you up to 10 minutes away, including the Carlsbad Outlets, which are 5-10 minutes away.
**There is a sizeable local shopping plaza with a giant Rite Aid, grocery store, etc. a few blocks away.

Overall, I would stay here again, because this is the only 4-star in the area. The other hotels I know are either 5-star (more expensive) or 3-star. However, the Cape Rey Hilton is not exciting enough to make me want to make a special trip to Carlsbad.

Room Tip: Ask for higher floor room directly FRONTING ocean. Ask to NOT be above bar with outside patio directly below room.

View wasn't the greatest, could've gotten ocean view but didn't opt for that. Service from the bellmen to front desk to restaurants, to morning coffee in lobby all top notch, not intrusive but assistive and friendly. quiet rooms which is a big deal to us. pool heated.

Room Tip: get the rooms with balcony and ocean view. do happy hour
