We stayed in room 61-it was a corner room. It did not have a hammock outside the room but other rooms did. The room was very spacious but comfortable. The bed was comfortable and was not a spring mattress. We only stayed one night but two full days and took in some activities. Breakfast was free and it was a buffet. A good selection of food was offered. We did eat both buffet and a la carte for lunch and dinner. A la carte was cheaper. The buffet was reasonable at $22 American per person. The buffet offered the standard types of food-pasta, salads, rice, chicken, soup etc. A la carte we ordered pizza and burgers. Activities we participated in were 1 hour horseback riding for $27 a person American. We had never rode before but the horses were very tame and knew the route. The route took you to a waterfall where you could jump off a slight cliff into the water. We did the national park and had Johnny as our guide-the hotel offers a shuttle and guide. He did an amazing job identifying the trees and animals. We lucked out and saw howler monkeys. This park required an entrance fee of $15 a person American and you will need to show your passport. We took the shorter trail but it took us about 1.5 hours to travel and it was a good pace. After the park, Johnny took us to the waterfall. Amazing and beautiful with suspension bridge and ladder to go down to get pictures. We also did the Hot Springs and Mud Bath which was free and a shuttle provided by the hotel. The grounds have a look out point where my husband did some pictures of the night sky-lots of stars. The flowers and trees on the property are beautiful and you do get some different types of birds.

Thank you Bybren for your review of Hacienda Guachipelin We are glad that your stay was a good one and that you had the chance to see howler monkeys.
About the price of the buffet , we would like to explain that $22 includes 13% of sales tax and 10% service tax,
We are glad that Johnny was your guide, he knows a lot about the wildlife in the area.
Thanks for visiting Rincon de la Vieja Volcano National Park.
Pura vida !!!

It appears from the pictures I have seen that I drew the short straw for room choice.
My room was very basic The shower was Not good and there was No hot water in the sink for shaving. The bed was hard but the bedding was clean. The main restaurant serve dinner & breakfast Buffet which was ok but not a great choice. Food could also be bought from the lower drinks bar. The grounds are nice to walk in with plenty of shrubs.
The horse are stables are close to the huts . This hotel is 45 minutes from Liberia airport and is often used for the start of Costa Rica tours for 1 night.
Various adventures can be done from here within the large surrounding grounds

Plenty of activities can be arranged. We did horse riding which I thought was a little dull and river tubing which was awesome. Rooms were basic but adequate. Both breakfast and dinner ($22 for a buffet) were ok. The bar had a great view and beer was cheap ($3.50).

We stayed in this hotel for two nights in a short trip to the area. This is a beautiful National Park with volcanic landscape and natural hot springs. It is worth while a visit, beware it is closed on Mondays. You can still visit the hot springs or the spa nearby for some quality healing time and participate in many activities organised by the hotel. The hotel has a traditional feel. Our standard rate room was spacious and clean with only basic amenities. It includes a safe for which you need to pay $100 deposit at reception. Food is good especially the breakfast which is included. The pool amenities could be better, and the pool bar could serve coffee and not just cocktails and soft drinks but is still very pleasant. Special mention for the very friendly and smiley staff. We will certainly visit again

We stayed two nights at this lovely hotel. The design of the facility made a busy place feel so private. So many activities for adventurous or more relaxed travellers. Service was impeccable - always friendly and helpful. Comfortable beds and beautiful soaps, shampoo and creams in the bathroom - added a luxury touch. Beautiful grounds.
