Fernando was an excellent ATV guide. He and the trip were a highlight of our trip! He was very considerate and cautious of our six and four year old and they loved the outing! The area is very quiet and the restaurant selection is minimal. The staff attitude is second to none.

This resort has beautiful grounds and rooms, but they totally missed the mark on a few VERY important things. We live in Costa Rica and came here for my birthday during the slow season specifically to relax in the HOT spring pools. So we were extremely disappointed upon discovering that the pools were lukewarm at best. Especially since you can see the natural hot spring just meters away boiling and steaming out of the earth. We told the receptionist and he had someone "flush out the pipes" to get more hot water in the tubs, but that did absolutely nothing. We've been to the hot springs in the Rincon de la Vieja National Park many times and those are sometimes so hot you can't stay in them. So we knew something was wrong here, were pissed no one addressed it, but tried our best to enjoy what felt like three hour old bath water.
The sauna was nice (and actually hot!), and the natural surrounding were amazing - the saving grace! We saw toucans, howler and capuchin monkeys, agouti (large rodents native to Central America), and many other tropical birds right from the hot spring area. We also walked the nature trail behind the pool area which was pretty and loops around to the sauna. Thankfully the suite we rented had a jacuzzi tub, so we filled that up with actual hot water and at least were able to soak in there.
Disappointment number two was the food. They try hard to make the restaurant look fancy at dinner, but the food is overpriced and below average (like most food in this country). My vegetarian entree was the size of an appetizer, and my boyfriend's meal was just average (not worth the $24 price tag). The real kicker though, was at breakfast the next day, when we were served OLD, 10-times refried, tooth-breaking gallo pinto, with what looked like microwaved rubbery plantains, greasy eggs, queso fresco and a piece of mystery lunch meat. DISGUSTING!! I don't even eat real meat, so that thing they added almost made me lose my stomach, and I could really only force down some of the eggs and cheese. We have eaten gallo pinto countless times all around Costa Rica, and this was hands down THE WORST. It's an insult that the cooks and waitresses can even look you in the eye and serve you that, expecting you to eat it. This place is not a crusty corner soda, where you'd expect that kind of meal. This is a resort that charges more than enough for their rooms to cook some fresh rice and beans for their guests, especially since that is the ONLY food option onsite, or for miles around!!
Get it together Borinquen! Your resort could be amazing if you just tried to fix these obvious failures on your part.

Room Tip: Junior suites were great!

The drive up to the resort was long, yet beautiful through some lush scenery. The resort is blessed by an ideal location with great views, and some amazing hot springs. We booked a room, but when we arrived it was not ready due to some heavy rain damage the night before so they upgraded us to a bigger room!

As a solo traveler, this place was perfect as a location to relax and explore the surrounding area. The rooms are more like cabins, the mud baths are perfect as well as the horseback riding and zipline. no wifi in the rooms, but it's in the common areas.
