“Romantic, Relaxing, Clean, Great service!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 March 2012

I never write reviews, but our experience at this resort was beyond amazing. They were so helpful with planing our trip ahead of time, and promptly replied to all emails. During our stay the service was great, and the food was awesome as well, and we're a bit of "foodies."

The road up was fun, and took you into another world, my husband and i felt relaxed as soon as we arrived. Definitely follow other's advice and get a 4WD car, aslo, get GPS, so worth it.

The room was awesome, private bungaloo, and very clean. Just an amazing feel.

Room Tip: Invest in the private bungaloos, much more private.

Our group of 4 drove in our rented vehicle from Playa Hermosa to Borinquen for a day trip of adventure. It took us about an hour and 45 minutes to get there. Upon arrival, we were graciously greeted with fruit juice and suggestions about how to spend our day. Instead of a $90/person package which would include an ATV safari, lunch and use of the pools and mud baths, we elected to do only the ATV safari and lunch for $60 apiece (we needed to be back at Playa Hermosa early in the afternoon). The safari was so much fun! Our guide, Harry, was informative, entertaining and always ready to take photos of our group. We rode over open roads through fields and through narrow trails in the rainforest. Part of the safari involved hiking to two waterfalls - very nice! Lunch was in an elegant dining room. Our group ordered 2 hamburgers (both somewhat dry), a chicken sandwich and an order of "Grandmother's chicken and rice". All orders included salad of choice and dessert. Three in our group thought the food was good but not exceptionally so; our fourth thoroughly enjoyed the chicken and rice plate.
The hotel property is absolutely beautiful but is remotely located by way of roads in poor condition.

Room Tip: (I have not stayed in a room. I accidentally touched the room rating and was unable to change it ba...

This was our second trip to Borinquen. We stayed in an upgraded villa which was beautifully furnished with a gorgeous patio. The food - dinner and breakfast - was delicious, and the wait staff was very attentive. Also don't miss spa - the massage rooms overlook a gorgeous waterfall which provide background for the massage. Interesting mud and steam holes. We enjoy Borinquen because it feels more like Costa Rica than the large chain hotels.

Room Tip: The "200" series rooms are goregeous.

Did ATV Safari with Harry as our guide very helpful and entertaining. Landscape was beautiful. This was a day trip for us using our own transportation out of Playa Hermosa.

We stayed 2 nights at the hotel. The rooms reminded us of an old but elegant european mountain resort. Very comfortable and in style. The hotel area itself is superb. We did the crater hike with the hotel guides. Unfortunatly, it was windy as we approached the summit, so we didn't reach the crater. Anyway, after a long hiking day we returned just in time to experience the hot spings - starting with the Natural heated sauna, then the mineral mud, and finished at the hot & cold pools.
The hotel restaurant is in line with the hotel image - elegant, high class service and good food. We had there dinner and breakfast.
On the whole, we didn't feel it was worthwhile to make the trip to the remote Rinkin de la Vieja area, comapred to other options to see in Costa Rica. But if you plan to go there, this hotel is certainly outstanding, and is worth staying while you're there.
