This is such great place to relax, get away from the hustle of Silicon Valley. Only a short 30 minute drive up in the Redwoods, if you know how to drive in the mountains.... you can hike for miles and get the feel for what the California untouched mountains were like, before the building started.

If you're in the area for more than a couple of days, and/or you're an avid hiker, this is a must-see in San Jose/Santa Cruz. Incredible forest, and amazingly most visitors only get maybe a mile up any given trail. Big park, huge, and you can if you want hike all the way to the ocean from the park entrance (or enter from the ocean side and hike all the way to the other side.) Spring and summer most years there is a beautiful waterfall about halfway between the park entrance and the ocean side. Has a general store where you can get stuff to eat/water/guidebooks/etc. Park Rangers are great. Even if you're NOT a big hiker it is something you need to see if you've never seen a redwood forest - the trees will blow you away.

Well preserved, easily accessible Redwood grove. With large and tall trees and nice short walks, a signature of the past, well located between the bay area and Santa Cruz

Ony 45 minutes drive away from South Bay. This place will take you back to the wonder of wilderness from you busy city life in no time. This forest nurtures some majestic redwoods that rival those in High Sierra. The Basin is so close I normally make it a day trip and go home to dinner.

Although it has been quite awhile, I still can remember the beautiful scenery and the wonderfull walking trails. The air is crisp and clean. Bring your own picnic basket for a wonderful meal out in nature. The park is clean and well maintained.
