Housed in an historic Southern Pacific train station with an active Amtrak stop outside, Brennans offers 8 HD big screen televisions throughout the restaurant to give avid sports fans the chance to see any game all season starting at 10AM PST weekends. Baseball, basketball, football, soccer and both pro and college. Darts games weekly, too. Locals favor the relaxed atmosphere and traditional comfort food made daily, including made-from-scratch soups, corned beef, roast beef and gravy, hot turkey sandwiches and much more. There is a fresh vegan soup daily as well. My favorite is the ginger carrot; very creamy and tasty! 24 beer taps include Guinness plus a wide selection of stouts, pales, wheats, ambers, browns, and other ales plus lagers, pilsners and the ubiquitous IPAs. The local craft brew options rotate frequently. Ask the bartender for the "Frequent Pinter" card - drink 24 pints of different brews and get your photo on the "pinter Board of Infamy". Tip: Brennans offers 3 hours of "free" parking validation for nearby 4th Street city parking lot with a $4 purchase. It's a good deal if you're driving as parking nearby can be hard to find.

We've eaten here a few times this month. Sandwiches are excellent, and they pile it on. It's more of a lunch than dinner spot, so if you get there late they might be out of something (like roast beef, happened once). Typical Hof Brau atmosphere. Has all the games on TV if you are into that. Next to the tracks so you get to watch the trains go by which is actually cool. Some parking. Tricky to get into as it's like under the University Ave bridge over the freeway, but Google will get you there fine. Only one better in the East Bay that I know of is Harry's in San Leandro, and honestly it's a toss up on most things. Recommended.

The food here comes to you while you stand in line. So many hot plates to choose from and so many combinations. A long existing place that those who find it will continue to come by. Great food, a bit noisy as restaurants like this tend to be but a really fun place to eat good food and spend your time people watching in a very mixed crowd.

We have been going here for years. Consistently good and comfortable ambiance. We generally --as on this visit--go for the turkey meals. Fresh roasted. We had the Turkey Dinner Platter and,Turkey Sandwich with Cole Slaw and Potato Salad. All were delicious.

Marilyn and I made the mistake of trying to eat at Smoke Berkeley, a Berkeley BBQ on San Pablo which gets rave reviews. It was the day of the opening game at Cal, our mistake. BY the time we got to the restaurant, they were out of nearly everything. So, we'll do that another day. Where to? We had a time crunch since we had tickets to a musical at 8pm. Berkeley and fast, it had to be Brennan's, now in the train station under the University Avenue overpass. It's been awhile since we've been to Brennan's, in fact since before they moved into the train station. It was great. A perfect choice. The hofbrau has great meats and service was fast. Great bar with lots of draft beer choices. Reasonably priced on everything. Plus we made the musical as the curtain was going up. Brennan's our go to place.
